New York State Regional Food Hub Opens At 298 Halleck Street In Hunts Point, The Bronx

A new 60,000-square-foot cold storage and distribution facility known as the New York State Regional Food Hub has officially opened at 298 Halleck Street in Hunts Point, the Bronx. Operated by GrowNYC, the $45 million project was backed by $19 million in state funding through the New York City Regional Economic Development Council. The Hub is designed to scale up the distribution of locally sourced food from approximately 3 million pounds to 20 million pounds annually by 2034, creating more than 200 new jobs while enhancing food access across underserved New York communities.

Phase Two of The Peninsula Tops Out in Hunts Point, The Bronx

Construction has topped out on the second phase of The Peninsula, a 100-percent affordable residential complex in Hunts Point, The Bronx. Developed and built by Gilbane Development, Hudson Companies, MHANY Management, and Broadway Builders, the entire master plan will consist of four mixed-use buildings yielding 740 affordable homes. The development will also contain a light-industrial manufacturing facility, 15,000 square feet of retail space, a grocery store, and 57,000 square feet of open public plazas. There will also be 52,000 square feet of community facility space slated to be occupied by a DOE administered Head Start facility, Inspiration Point’s cultural arts facility, and a Health and Wellness Center operated by UrbanHealth Plan. The property is located along Spofford Avenue between Manida and Tiffany Streets.

Last week, development partners Hudson Companies, Gilbane Development Company, and MHANY Management Inc. celebrated the groundbreaking of Phase Two of The Peninsula in Hunts Point, The Bronx at the site of the former Spofford Juvenile Detention Center. The two-building development will offer 100-percent affordable housing, as well as commercial, community facility, and open space.

The affordable housing lottery has launched for 911 Bryant Avenue, a four-story residential building in Hunts Point, The Bronx. Designed by Fred Geremia Architects & Planners, the structure yields six residences. Available on NYC Housing Connect are two units for residents at 130 percent of the area median income (AMI), ranging in eligible income from $75,429 to $165,230.

Wells Fargo Hits $780M Financing Milestone for New York City Affordable Housing Projects

The Community Lending and Investment division of Wells Fargo has reached a new milestone, $780.3 million in construction financing for affordable housing projects in New York City and Westchester County. The figure represents five loans, all closed in June 2023, the company’s largest-ever half-cycle allocation.

Bronx Logistics Center In Hunts Point Achieves LEED-Platinum Certification

The Bronx Logistics Center in Hunts Point has officially achieved a LEED v4 Platinum rating, the highest LEED certification granted by the U.S. Green Building Council. Designed by ARCO and developed by Turnbridge Equities and Dune Real Estate Partners, the 1.3-million-square-foot facility is on track to open this year and will be among a small group of LEED Platinum-rated distribution buildings in the country.

Developed by Greg Harvey of Masani Holding Company Corp. and designed by Gerald Caliendo, the structure yields 40 residences. Available on NYC Housing Connect are 40 units for residents at 80 percent of the area median income (AMI), ranging in eligible income from $52,286 to $85,440.

Phase One of $460M Hunts Point Interstate Improvement Project Now Complete in the South Bronx

Skanska and its joint venture partner ECCO III Enterprises have completed the first phase of a $460 million interstate improvement project in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx. Key project elements include the replacement of four bridges that connect Bruckner Expressway and Bruckner Boulevard over Amtrak and CSX rail lines, improved pedestrian access, and a new community park.

Final Phase of $1.7B Hunts Point Access Improvement Project Kicks Off in the South Bronx

New York governor Kathy Hochul has announced the third and final phase of the $1.7 billion Hunts Point Access Improvement Project is now underway in the South Bronx. Launched in 2019, the goal of the project is to provide improved access between the Hunts Point Peninsula and the Sheridan and Bruckner Expressways for automobiles and trucks traveling to and from wholesale commercial businesses located on the peninsula. The project will also address infrastructure deficiencies in the area.
