City and State Announce Roosevelt Island Lease Extension, Long-Term Planning Initiative

A new framework jointly announced by New York City Mayor Eric Adams and New York Governor Kathy Hochul will extend the Roosevelt Island master lease and initiate a planning effort to shape the island’s long-term future. Subject to approval by the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC), the lease, which was originally set to expire in 2068, will be extended by ten years to 2078. The extension aims to provide financial stability for Roosevelt Island’s 12,000 residents and over 100 businesses. The city and state will also collaborate with RIOC on a community planning and engagement process focused on housing, infrastructure, and public amenities.

New Renderings Released For Riverwalk Heights At 430 Main Street on Roosevelt Island, Manhattan

New renderings have been released for Riverwalk Heights, a 30-story residential building at 430 Main Street on Roosevelt Island. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Related Companies and The Hudson Companies, the 305-foot-tall structure will span 292,865 square feet and yield 253 market-rate rental apartments in studio to three-bedroom layouts, with 104 units reserved for employees of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) across eight floors, as well as 3,700 square feet of ground-floor office space for the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation. The building was formerly known as Riverwalk 9 and is the final and tallest component of the Riverwalk master plan, located along Main Street just east of the Riverwalk Commons green lawn.

Excavation is progressing for Riverwalk 9, a 28-story residential building at 430 Main Street on Roosevelt Island. Developers Close on $185 Million Loan to Complete Riverwalk 9 at 430 Main Street on Roosevelt Island

Related Companies and The Hudson Companies have closed on a $185 million financial package to complete Riverwalk 9, a 28-story residential building at 430 Main Street on Roosevelt Island. Designed by Handel Architects, the tower is the ninth and final component of the Riverwalk mega-development. Wells Fargo provided financing for the housing development.

Work Wraps on $11M Renovation and Expansion of Southpoint Park on Roosevelt Island

The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation has completed a major expansion of Southpoint Park, a waterfront public park on the southeast tip of Roosevelt Island. The $11 million revitalization project expands the island’s lookout points with pathways and native vegetation, and strengthens the shoreline against future storm damage.

Monument Honoring Journalist Nellie Bly Debuts on Roosevelt Island

The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation has unveiled a new outdoor monument honoring renowned journalist Nellie Bly. Located on the island’s northern tip, “The Girl Puzzle” consists of five bronze faces sculpted in the image of Bly and anonymous female faces representing Asian American, Black, young, older, and queer women.

Graduate Hotel And Verizon Executive Education Center Complete Construction on Roosevelt Island

Work is fully complete on Snøhetta‘s 18-story, 224-room Graduate Hotel at 22 North Loop Road and the adjacent four-story Verizon Tech Executive Education Center on Roosevelt Island. Stonehill Taylor worked alongside Snøhetta for the Graduate Hotel, serving as the architect of record. The Graduate Hotel and the Verizon Tech Center properties are the final pieces of the Skidmore, Owings & Merrill-designed Cornell Tech master plan, which was developed by Hudson Companies, Related Companies, and Brookfield and rises south of the Queensboro Bridge’s central span. Architectural Precast Innovations (API) was the concrete partner on the two buildings.

Exterior Work Finishes on Verizon Executive Education Center and Graduate Hotel, on Roosevelt Island

The finishing touches are wrapping up on the Verizon Tech Executive Education Center and the adjoining Graduate Hotel at 22 North Loop Road on Roosevelt Island. Designed by Snøhetta, the 18-story hotel is managed by Graduate Hotels and will contain 224 rooms, while the four-story education center will feature a number of spaces for academic conferences, executive programs, seminars, and workshops. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill is the master planner and Hudson Companies, Related Companies, and Brookfield are developing the entire Cornell Tech campus, which sits just south of the Queensboro Bridge’s central span.

Work is wrapping up on the Verizon Tech Executive Education Center and Graduate Hotel on Roosevelt Island. The topped-out, 18-story structure is designed by Snøhetta and includes an adjacent four-story annex. Graduate Hotels is the operator of the 224 hotel rooms. Skidmore, Owings & Merrill is the master planner of the island campus, while Hudson Companies, Related Companies, and Brookfield are developing the entire Cornell Tech satellite location.

Exterior Work Wraps Up on 460 Main Street on Roosevelt Island

Work on the installation of the glass and brick fenestration for 460 Main Street, aka Riverwalk 8, has reached the roof parapet. Now most of the activity has shifted to finishing the ground-floor exterior of the 21-story, 341-unit building, located on Roosevelt Island and designed by Handel Architects. This will be the eighth component in the nine-building Riverwalk Park rental complex, which is developed as a joint venture between Related Companies and Hudson Companies.
