City and State Announce Roosevelt Island Lease Extension, Long-Term Planning Initiative

A new framework jointly announced by New York City Mayor Eric Adams and New York Governor Kathy Hochul will extend the Roosevelt Island master lease and initiate a planning effort to shape the island’s long-term future. Subject to approval by the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC), the lease, which was originally set to expire in 2068, will be extended by ten years to 2078. The extension aims to provide financial stability for Roosevelt Island’s 12,000 residents and over 100 businesses. The city and state will also collaborate with RIOC on a community planning and engagement process focused on housing, infrastructure, and public amenities.

New renderings have been released for Riverwalk Heights, a 30-story residential building at 430 Main Street on Roosevelt Island. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Related Companies and The Hudson Companies, the 305-foot-tall structure will span 292,865 square feet and yield 253 market-rate rental apartments in studio to three-bedroom layouts, with 104 units reserved for employees of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) across eight floors, as well as 3,700 square feet of ground-floor office space for the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation. The building was formerly known as Riverwalk 9 and is the final and tallest component of the Riverwalk master plan, located along Main Street just east of the Riverwalk Commons green lawn.

Developers Close on $185 Million Loan to Complete Riverwalk 9 at 430 Main Street on Roosevelt Island

Related Companies and The Hudson Companies have closed on a $185 million financial package to complete Riverwalk 9, a 28-story residential building at 430 Main Street on Roosevelt Island. Designed by Handel Architects, the tower is the ninth and final component of the Riverwalk mega-development. Wells Fargo provided financing for the housing development.
