FIT’s New Academic Building Rises at 220 West 28th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan

Construction is rising on the Fashion Institute of Technology‘s New Academic Building, a ten-story structure at 220 West 28th Street in the Garment District of Chelsea. Designed by SHoP Architects, the 110,000-square-foot facility will yield new classrooms, administrative offices, review and exhibition spaces, and a student quad illuminated by skylights. EE Cruz & Company Inc. is the general contractor for the Midtown project, which is located between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, within walking distance of Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, and Moynihan Train Hall. The New Academic Building is aiming for LEED Gold certification upon completion.

New Jersey Community Capital Awarded $985,000 for Continued Neighborhood Revitalization in East Trenton, New Jersey

The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs has awarded $985,000 to New Jersey Community Capital (NJCC) to facilitate the development, preservation, and enhancement of affordable housing, vocational programming, and community facilities in East Trenton.

The affordable housing lottery has launched for 539 Vanderbilt Avenue, a 29-story residential tower at 550 Clinton Avenue in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. Designed by Morris Adjmi Architects and developed by Hope Street Capital, the structure yields 284 apartments and about 60,000 square feet of retail space. Available on NYC Housing Connect are 80 units for residents at 70 to 130 percent of the area median income (AMI), ranging in eligible income from $48,206 to $215,150.

Originally designed by Rosario Candela in 1929, the upper floors and interiors are now being converted and meticulously transformed into a spacious new condominium duplex designed by CetraRuddy Architecture. Located at the crossroads of Central Park West and 96th Street, the full-service prewar building is the only condominium on Central Park West that bears the prestigious Candela imprimatur.

Rendering Revealed for Mixed-Use Affordable Housing Development in Newark, New Jersey

Fairstead and LIHC Investment Group have announced plans for a six-story mixed-use development at 127 Orchard Street in Newark, New Jersey. Part of Essex Plaza, a 13-building residential complex, the new structure will replace a surface-level parking lot and yield 365,000 square feet with 241 units. Forty percent of these will be set aside as affordable units for households and individuals at 60 percent area median income (AMI). In practice, that equates an annual income of $64,400 for a four-person household.

450 Eleventh Avenue’s Façade Installation Resumes in Hudson Yards, Manhattan

Façade work has resumed on 450 Eleventh Avenue, a 51-story Aloft Hotel in Hudson Yards. Designed by DSM Design Group and developed by Marx Development Group, the 642-foot-tall skyscraper will yield 379 guest rooms as well as a business center, a ballroom, and a fourth-floor restaurant and bar with an outdoor terrace overlooking the transforming neighborhood. Atria Builders is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the corner of West 37th Street and Eleventh Avenue, directly across from the Jacob K. Javits Center.

HSBC Relocates US Headquarters to The Spiral at 66 Hudson Boulevard in Hudson Yards, Manhattan

HSBC is the latest company to relocate its core business operations to The Spiral, a 65-story supertall office skyscraper in Midtown West, Manhattan.
