The New School has signed a lease to extend its occupancy at Westbeth Artists Housing, an artists’ housing complex at 151 Bank Street in Manhattan’s West Village. The lease is for 20,000 square feet across three floors over the next ten years, a continuation of the organization’s tenure in the building, which began in 2003.
151 Bank Street was built in 1929 for Bell Laboratories and was originally used for early sound-film experiments, and features a brick exterior commonly seen in industrial buildings of the 20th century. The space occupied by the New School features classrooms, set and costume studios, and offices, along with a double-height theater room on the top floor.

Westbeth is situated just south of the Manhattan’s Meatpacking District and the southern entry point to the High Line. The complex is a short walk from train stations served by the L, 1, 2, and 3 and PATH trains.
