Solow’s 685 First Avenue Nearing Completion, Murray Hill

Among the few vacant lots remaining in Murray Hill, 685 First Avenue, between East 39th and 40th Streets, was one of the largest before permits were filed back in August of 2015. In May of 2016, the first renderings for the building were released, and by January of this year, construction was several floors above street level. Now, the latest photos from 5B Films show that work has topped-out, and the facade is closing in on the upper levels, as the 42-story tower approaches completion.

The skyscraper boom surrounding the lower reaches of Fifth Avenue has only accelerated in the past few years, with 277 Fifth Avenue now rising quickly, and foundation work underway for 126 Madison Avenue, one block to the north. To the southwest of those towers, excavation is also about to begin on the area’s first legitimate residential supertall, at 262 Fifth Avenue, and today YIMBY has an exclusive new look at the project, for which the DOB officially approved plans yesterday.

First Look at Morris Adjmi-Designed 419 Broadway, SoHo

The boundary between SoHo and Tribeca is not exactly renowned for its contextual historic architecture, but as the blocks surrounding Canal Street have continued to see new developments, things are slowly changing for the better. This week, the Landmarks Preservation Commission will review plans designed by Morris Adjmi Architects for 419 Broadway, which is occupied by an existing structure that most definitely will not be missed.
