Four-Story, 40,000-Square-Foot Middle School Planned at 535 Grand Street, Jersey City

BelovED Community Charter School has acquired, from the Jersey City Housing Authority, the vacant half-acre development site at 535 Grand Street, in the Bergen-Lafayette section of Jersey City, with plans to build a new four-story, 40,000-square-foot middle school. The facility will be able to accommodate 240 students in grades six through nine, according to The Jersey Journal. The building will feature a two-story cafeteria that can also be utilized as a 300-seat auditorium, a 1,250-square-foot, sound-proof music room, a gymnasium, 19 classrooms, two science rooms, two art rooms, a sub-dividable multi-purpose room, a library, and administrative offices. There will also be outdoor recreational space and a 31-car parking lot. The project is being designed by Urbahn Architects. Opening is expected in September of 2018.

Four-Story, Four-Unit Building Rises at 54 Bright Street, Jersey City

We like to keep our eyes open to new developments outside New York City, and one of the fastest-growing places is Jersey City. It could soon overtake Newark as the most populous city in the nation’s most densely-populated state. In January, ground was broken for a 900-foot residential tower at 99 Hudson Street. Now, we have word of a decidedly smaller development – a four-story, four-unit condominium building rising at 54 Bright Street.

Extensive Renovations Planned At 131-Unit Subsidized Housing Complex At 591 Montgomery Street, Jersey City

The Jersey City Housing Authority has tapped The Architectural Team to design an extensive renovation of the 14-building, 131-unit affordable housing complex at 591 Montgomery Street, located just west of downtown Jersey City. The complex, dubbed Bushwick Estates, includes three- and four-story building with subsidized apartments that come in two-, three-, and four-bedroom configurations. Real Estate Weekly reports the renovations will include both interior and exterior work, featuring new façades, green spaces with landscaping and lighting, and energy-efficient technology. The complex – which is bound by Bright, Merseles, and Montgomery streets – was originally completed in the 1980s and designed by Don M. Hisaka.


65 Bay Street

50-Story, 446-Unit Residential Tower Wraps Up Construction At 65 Bay Street, Jersey City

Back in September of 2015, YIMBY brought you construction shots of the planned 50-story, 446-unit residential tower at 65 Bay Street, in Jersey City’s Powerhouse Arts District. At the time, the structure was roughly 35 stories in height, and has since topped out at 484 feet above street level. The rental project, dubbed Trump Bay Street, accumulated $50 million in financing from the EB-5 program, Bloomberg Politics reports. It’s 41,000 square feet of amenities include an outdoor pool, an indoor golf simulator, along with a large parking garage, which connects to Trump Plaza Residences (built of 2008). Kushner Companies and KABR Group are the developers and Humphreys & Partners Architects is designing. Completion is expected this upcoming summer.
