LPC Designates Five Garment Industry Buildings As Individual Landmarks In Midtown, Manhattan

The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) has designated five architecturally and historically significant buildings in Manhattan’s Garment District as individual landmarks. The properties are the Barbey Building at 15 West 38th Street, Fashion Tower at 135 West 36th Street, the Furcraft Building at 242-246 West 30th Street, 29th Street Towers at 214 and 224 West 29th Street, and the Lefcourt Clothing Center at 275 Seventh Avenue. All buildings reflect early 20th-century commercial development tied to New York’s garment and fur industries and were designed by architects including Delano and Aldrich, Emery Roth, Henry I. Oser, and Ely Jacques Kahn.

Construction has topped out on Casoni, a 70-story residential skyscraper in the Garment District of Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by C3D Architecture and developed by Sioni Group in partnership with AB & Sons, the 785-foot-tall structure will span 384,118 square feet and yield 311 rental and condominium units with an average scope of 991 square feet. The building will also contain two cellar levels. The property is located at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and West 37th Street.

Construction has topped out on 255 West 34th Street, a 33-story hotel tower on the southern edge of the Garment District in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Stonehill Taylor and developed by Maverick Real Estate Partners, the 397-foot-tall structure was last planned to yield 330 hotel rooms spread across 155,594 square feet. The property is located on an interior lot between Seventh and Eighth Avenues.

Royce Residences Finishes Construction at 341 West 38th Street in Garment District, Manhattan

Construction is complete on Royce Residences, a 19-story residential building at 341 West 38th Street in the Garment District of Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Stephen B. Jacobs Group and developed by Central Properties, the project consisted of the renovation and vertical expansion of an existing 12-story structure and the construction of an addition on the narrow parcel to its east. The structure yields 112 rental units in studio- to two-bedroom layouts, with 30 designated as affordable housing for residents earning 40 to 130 percent of the area median income (AMI). The property is located between Eighth and Ninth Avenues.
