Manhattan’s Garment District is the latest neighborhood to receive an award from the NY Forward program, a state-funded initiative that supports strategic revitalization plans across New York. The $4.5 million award will specifically support local efforts to create a robust economic district with attractive investment opportunities, engaging public spaces, and improved public safety.
The Manhattan Neighborhood Network has partnered with Kostow Greenwood Architects to complete a new media production facility and screening studio at 509 West 38th Street in Midtown, Manhattan. Located on the condominium building’s third and fourth floors, the new build-out will comprise 23,651 square feet and will serve as the network’s West Side headquarters.
Foundation work is nearly complete for the Fashion Institute of Technology‘s New Academic Building, a ten-story building in the Garment District of Chelsea. Designed by SHoP Architects, the structure will yield 110,000 square feet. EE Cruz & Company Inc. is the general contractor for the project, which is located between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, within walking distance of Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, and Moynihan Train Hall. The developer is aiming for LEED Gold certification.
Permits have been filed for a 68-story mixed-use building at 100 West 37th Street in Midtown, Manhattan. Located between Broadway and Sixth Avenue, the lot is three blocks north of the Herald Square subway station, serviced by the B, D, F, and M trains. Sioni Group is listed as the owner behind the applications.
Construction is continuing to rise on 255 West 34th Street, a 33-story hotel in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Stonehill Taylor Architects and developed by The Chetrit Group, the 397-foot-tall, 155,594-square-foot development will yield 330 hotel rooms. Flintlock Construction Services, LLC is the general contractor for the project, which is located on the southern edge of the Garment District between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, across from One Penn Plaza, Madison Square Garden, and the nearby James A. Farley Building and the new Moynihan Train Hall.
