The Toll Brothers’ new condo building is rising fast on the campus of the Church of St. Luke in the Fields in the West Village, and Tectonic captured some photos of the construction progress. The structure at 100 Barrow Street has reached six stories so far, but it will ultimately top out at 12 stories tall.
The IFC Center, deeply in need of more space, is one step closer to an expansion. The Landmarks Preservation Commission recently approved plans for the movie theater at Sixth Avenue and West 3rd Street to expand to a vacant lot behind it at 14-16 Cornelia Street. That would bump IFC’s five theaters seating a total of 480 people to 11 theaters seating a total of 948 people, while also clearing out the sidewalk with added lobby space.
In the summer of 2014, YIMBY revealed renderings of Ian Schrager’s planned residential building at 160 Leroy Street (a.k.a. 357 West Street), in the West Village, and now The New York Times has an update on the project. The Herzog & de Meuron-designed structure will actually stand 15 stories and accommodate 49 condominium units, which will range from 1,100 to 6,000 square feet. A 12,000 square-foot penthouse will top the building. Madison Cox Associates is also designing a 9,750 square-foot courtyard and Christian Liaigre is designing the interiors. The assemblage’s existing buildings are now being razed, and completion is expected by the end of 2016.
The Landmarks-approved condo project rising at 130 Seventh Avenue South in the West Village has a teaser site, a new address, and a new rendering. Now, the seven-story development between West 9th and 10th Streets will be known as 175 West 10th Street.
The IFC Center movie theater on Sixth Avenue (at West 3rd Street) is one step closer to an expansion that would double the number of screens and alleviate crowding on the sidewalk. This would be accomplished by expanding to an empty lot located behind it at 14-16 Cornelia Street. On Tuesday, the proposal went before the Landmarks Preservation Commission and the commissioners could have approved the upper floors, but wanted more work done at street level.
