LPC To Review Renovation Proposal For 309 Clayton Road On Governors Island

The Trust for Governors Island has proposed the renovation of Building 309 at 309 Clayton Road on Governors Island, to expand its functionality as a public events and community programming space. The proposal, set for review by the Landmarks Preservation Commission on January 27, was assembled by Smith-Miller + Hawkinson Architects. Although situated within the Governors Island Historic District, Building 309 is classified as a non-contributing structure and has no architectural elements deemed necessary for preservation.

1763–1771 Amsterdam Avenue Progresses in Hamilton Heights, Manhattan

Construction has partially topped out on 1763–1771 Amsterdam Avenue, an eight-story senior housing facility in Hamilton Heights, Manhattan. Designed by HCN Design and developed by Elmo Realty, the 85-foot-tall structure will yield 126 senior apartments with an average scope of 394 square feet. The project will also include a 49,703-square-foot community facility space, a cellar, and a 43-foot-long rear yard. The property is located between West 147th and West 148th Streets.

La Central’s Two-Building, 420-Unit Second Phase Takes Shape in Melrose, The Bronx

Construction is progressing on 625 and 671 Brook Avenue, the final two residential buildings in the La Central complex in Melrose, The Bronx. Designed by MHG Architects and FXCollaborative, the 13- and 25-story structures will yield 420 affordable homes, including 63 supportive units for formerly homeless individuals. The buildings will also feature a 13,000-square foot community facility space, 1,500 square feet of ground-floor retail, and 7,000 square feet of landscaped gardens designed by Terrain. The project is being developed by a joint venture between Hudson Companies, BRP Companies, ELH-TKC, Breaking Ground, Comunilife, and J.P. Morgan, with the city contributing more than $137 million through the Department of Housing Preservation and Development. Broadway Builders is the construction company for the project.
