Phase Two of The Peninsula Tops Out in Hunts Point, The Bronx

Construction has topped out on the second phase of The Peninsula, a 100-percent affordable residential complex in Hunts Point, The Bronx. Developed and built by Gilbane Development, Hudson Companies, MHANY Management, and Broadway Builders, the entire master plan will consist of four mixed-use buildings yielding 740 affordable homes. The development will also contain a light-industrial manufacturing facility, 15,000 square feet of retail space, a grocery store, and 57,000 square feet of open public plazas. There will also be 52,000 square feet of community facility space slated to be occupied by a DOE administered Head Start facility, Inspiration Point’s cultural arts facility, and a Health and Wellness Center operated by UrbanHealth Plan. The property is located along Spofford Avenue between Manida and Tiffany Streets.

Silverstein’s Massive New Mixed-Use Tower, The Avenir, Revealed in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan

New designs have been released for The Avenir, a 45-story mixed-use tower in Hell’s Kitchen being developed in a joint venture between Silverstein Properties, Rush Street Gaming, and Greenwood Gaming and Entertainment. The 785-foot-tall structure designed by CetraRuddy Architecture and Steelman Partners will feature a gaming facility, 1,000-room hotel, as well as dining and entertainment. If approved, the building is expected to create 4,000 construction jobs, more than 5,000 permanent jobs, and opportunities for local business and community participation.

Former Whitney Museum Building Designated Individual, Interior Landmark at 945 Madison Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) has unanimously designated the former Whitney Museum of American Art building at 945 Madison Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side as both an individual and interior landmark. Designed by Marcel Breuer and Associates and completed in 1966, the Brutalist-style structure served as the Whitney Museum’s home until 2014 and is now set to become Sotheby’s new global headquarters. The building is located at the corner of East 75th Street.

Renderings Reveal Lincoln Center Campus Upgrades on Manhattan’s Upper West Side

New renderings have been revealed for the planned campus upgrades to Lincoln Center on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Designed by Weiss/Manfredi and led by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Lincoln Center West Initiative, the project will transform Damrosch Park on the Amsterdam Avenue side of the complex with a new outdoor theater and public recreation space. Moody Nolan is the architect of record and Hood Design Studio is the landscape architect for the development, which is located at the southwest corner of the Lincoln Center plan by the corner of Amsterdam Avenue and West 62nd Street.

New York State Council Allocates Funds To Cultural Infrastructure Projects In New York City And Long Island

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) will award $86 million through its Capital Projects Fund, with a portion of the funding allocated to cultural infrastructure projects in New York City and Long Island. Among the 134 statewide recipients, notable NYC and Long Island grantees include the Afro-Latin Jazz Alliance of New York in Manhattan and the Gateway Playhouse in Suffolk County.
