CityPickle Reveals Plans To Revitalize Anchorage Plaza In Dumbo, Brooklyn

CityPickle has unveiled plans for a revitalization of Anchorage Plaza beneath the Brooklyn Bridge in Dumbo, Brooklyn. The 60,000-square-foot site, comprising the Old Fulton Street Yard, Washington Old Street Yard, and Ash Alley, will be transformed into “CityPickle Brooklyn Bridge,” featuring 11 pickleball courts, green spaces, food trucks, seating, shade structures, bike racks, and community programming. The project is spearheaded by CityPickle, selected by NYC Parks as the top-rated proposer in a 2024 Request for Proposals process.

Façade Installation Begins on New Museum’s Expansion on Manhattan’s Lower East Side

Façade installation is underway on the New Museum‘s seven-story expansion at 231 Bowery in the Bowery section of Manhattan’s Lower East Side. PG New York is fabricating and installing four distinct corrugated metal panel types and ACM panels on the North and South façades. Designed by Rem Koolhaas and Shohei Shigematsu of OMA along with Cooper Robertson & Partners, the 174-foot-tall annex stands directly south of the SANAA-designed main building, which was completed in 2007. The 60,000-square-foot addition connects laterally to the original structure and will more than double the institution’s footprint to 115,277 square feet. The new building will contain three gallery floors, an 80-seat restaurant, a larger bookstore, and offices for staff, among other spaces. The property is located at the intersection of Bowery and Prince Street.

New York Historical Expansion Tops Out at 170 Central Park West on Manhattan’s Upper West Side

Construction topped out on April 22 on the Tang Wing for American Democracy, a four-story expansion of the New York Historical at 170 Central Park West on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Designed by Robert A. M. Stern Architects, the 70,000-square-foot addition will yield new gallery spaces, classrooms, an outdoor courtyard, and a rooftop garden. The wing will house an expanded program for the Academy for American Democracy and also serve as the new home for the American LGBTQ+ Museum. It will also contain a compact storage facility for the Patricia D. Klingenstein Library collection. Turner Construction is the general contractor for the project, which is located on the southwest corner of the property along West 76th Street.

The Frick Collection to Reopen on April 17 on Manhattan’s Upper East Side

The Frick Collection is planned to reopen to the public on Thursday April 17, 2025, following a $330 million multi-year renovation and enhancement at 1 East 70th Street on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Designed by Selldorf Architects along with executive architect Beyer Blinder Belle, the project was the most comprehensive upgrade to the institution since its opening in 1935 and allows the public to explore more of the original Frick residence. The 196,000-square-foot complex is located along Fifth Avenue between East 70th and East 71st Streets.

NYC Downtown Alliance Announces Partnership With ArtBridge To Beautify Lower Manhattan Construction Sites

The Downtown Alliance has announced a new partnership with NYC arts nonprofit ArtBridge to enhance the aesthetics of Lower Manhattan’s construction sites. This program will allow property owners to transform sidewalk sheds and construction fencing with curated artwork, contributing to a more visually engaging streetscape. It is made possible by Local Law 163, passed in 2023 by the NYC Department of Buildings, which requires property owners erecting temporary protective structures to either display artwork or formally opt out.
