A vacant lot in Brooklyn’s Clinton Hill neighborhood will be no more. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved a new building for 145 Gates Avenue (at the corner of Grand Avenue). The structure will be a three-story house (four with the cellar) with four bedrooms in the Italianate style.
If you don’t live downtown, you might be forgiven for not knowing that the Howard Hughes Corporation is trying to remake the South Street Seaport. One of the key components of that is the new Pier 17, which is already in the works. Though the plan hit a bump in the road at Tuesday’s session of the Landmarks Preservation Commission, they aren’t dead in the water.
A new dawn is coming for a lower Manhattan landmark. With Chase gone, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved a proposal for an adaptive reuse of the plaza in front of the building formerly known as One Chase Manhattan Plaza (now 28 Liberty Street since Fosun International Ltd. bought). There will be ground floor retail and major changes to the plaza that should bring a lot of it back to its former glory.
It was in November that the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved altering a 1942 garage building at 456 Greenwich Street (at the corner of Desbrosses Street) and turn it into a restaurant. Well, things have changed and the proposal is now to demolish the existing building and build a hotel that will stretch out of the Tribeca North Historic District.
The building at the corner of Fourth Avenue and President Street in Park Slope, Brooklyn will become a gym, thanks to approval from the Landmarks Preservation Commission on Tuesday. This comes after minor backlash against Greystone & Co.’s plans to turn 227 Fourth Avenue into condominiums. The gym will reportedly be operated by Blink Fitness, though Blink’s logo could not be found in the submitted plans.
