A former piece of Rockefeller Center is set to grow a bit. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved a rooftop addition to 75 Rockefeller Plaza.

About two months ago, the Landmarks Preservation Commission heard a proposal to create a mega-mansion out of the rowhouses at 11-15 East 75^th Street. The commissioners, and the public, were quite unreceptive to it. On Tuesday, the team representing Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, owner of the mega-yacht Eclipse and the Chelsea Football Club, returned to the LPC and found their revised proposal much more to the commissioners’ liking.

Moinian Says 3 Hudson Boulevard Still on Track

We’ve reported a lot on Related/Oxford’s Hudson Yards mega-development and the neighboring Manhattan West, from Brookfield. There are also plenty of independent projects in the greater Hudson Yards District. One of those is the supertall office building dubbed 3 Hudson Boulevard and, despite reports of trouble, the developer, Moinian Group, assures YIMBY that it is still a go.

53W53 Shows Its Exoskeleton at 53 West 53rd Street, Midtown

Most buildings try to hide their skeletons behind masonry or some other opaque element. At 53W53, however, showing the bones off is a design feature. Thanks to some photos taken by our friend Tectonic, we can now see some of the exoskeleton at the Jean Nouvel-designed tower. The overall structure has now risen about four stories above ground.

20 East End Avenue’s Façade Nears Completion on Upper East Side

When we last checked in on the Robert A.M. Stern Architects-designed condominium building under construction at 20 East End Avenue, between East 80^th and 81^st streets in the Yorkville section of the Upper East Side, it had just topped out. That was back in November. Since then, as we can see in photos from our friend Tectonic, the façade is nearly finished.

Landmarks Okays Gas Station-to-Restaurant Conversion at 14 Old Fulton Street

A small lot in Brooklyn’s Fulton Ferry Historic District is on its way to a change of use. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission approved changes that will allow the former gas station at 14 Old Fulton Street to become a restaurant.

Landmarks Approves Redevelopment of Gansevoort Market Block

Big changes are coming to the Meatpacking District. On Tuesday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission, after three sessions, approved redevelopment of the block ranging from 46 to 74 Gansevoort Street. That’s between Greenwich Street and Washington Street, in the Gansevoort Market Historic District.

A block a little north of Madison Square Park is on its way to a major transformation, thanks to action by the Landmarks Preservation Commission on Tuesday. The block in question is between Fifth Avenue and Broadway, on West 29^th Street and part of West 30^th Street.

Preservationists Rally Against Landmarks Bill, Intro. 775

This morning, the City Council’s Land Use Committee is slated to vote on a bill called Intro. 775-A. The legislation was introduced last year by Council Members David Greenfield and Peter Koo and it would impose a set of restrictions and deadlines on the Landmarks Preservation Commission. To say preservationists and the public are unhappy with it would be an understatement and, on Monday morning, a rally against it was held on the City Hall steps.

Supertall 111 West 57th Street Sprouts from the Ground

One of the greatest single engineering challenges currently under construction in New York City has risen above ground. That project is the supertall mixed-use residential tower 111 West 57^th Street, located just west of Sixth Avenue in Midtown, and we can see the construction progress on the Billionaires’ Row building thanks to several photos posted by YIMBY Forums users.
