Preparations Underway for BIG’s Two-Skyscraper Development along Williamsburg’s Waterfront

Preparations for construction appear to be underway at the site of the River Street Waterfront Master Plan, Bjarke Ingels Group‘s proposed two-skyscraper, 1000-unit complex along the Williamsburg waterfront in Brooklyn. Developed by Two Trees, the project includes the 600-foot-tall 87 River Street and 650-foot-tall 105 River Street, as well as the alteration of the shoreline to create a circular beach, a 2.9-acre park, and two breakwaters directly to the north of the six-acre Domino Park.

Developer Two Trees has revealed plans for a mixed-used development with a beach on the Williamsburg waterfront in Brooklyn. Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group and landscape architecture firm James Corner Field Operations, the River Street Waterfront Master Plan proposal calls for two mixed-use towers and the redeveloping of land adjacent to the six-acre Domino Park, also a Two Trees project.

Exterior work is wrapping up on One South First, the tallest new building to be constructed in the Williamsburg waterfront development of Domino Park. Formally addressed as 260 Kent Avenue, the reinforced concrete structure rises on the northern end of the master plan and is part of the large-scale revitalization of the Domino Sugar factory site. The 435-foot-tall mixed-use project will soon yield 330 rentals, 66 affordable units, and 150,000 square feet of office space among 22 floors, as well as 13,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. COOKFOX is the architect of the tower and Two Trees Management is the developer.

Practice for Architecture and Urbanism (PAU), the architects responsible for the visionary conversion, return this week to the LPC with changes for its previously approved design.

Construction has topped out on One South First, formally called 260 Kent Avenue, in the Williamsburg waterfront development of Domino Park. This is the second new structure to rise from the master plan that aims to revitalize the site of the Domino Sugar factory. The reinforced concrete building now stands 435 feet high and will soon yield 330 rentals, 66 affordable units, and 150,000 square feet of office space among 22 floors, as well as 13,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Upper Half of 1 South First Begins to Conjoin Above Domino Sugar Factory Redevelopment, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

When YIMBY last checked in on 260 Kent Avenue, the building had only risen a few floors over Domino Park. Now, construction workers are bridging the gap between the two reinforced concrete structures that make up the bottom half of the structure. The 435-foot tall residential tower is being designed by COOKFOX, and will yield 462,000 square feet of space. There will be 330 rentals, 66 affordable units, and 150,000 square feet of office space spread among 22 floors, as well as 13,000 square feet of retail space at the base. Recent photos show the first level of the upper half being assembled.

Domino Redevelopment’s 42-Story 260 Kent Avenue Gets First Glass & Molecular-Inspired Facade

Glass is starting to rise at 260 Kent Avenue, and there’s something strangely pleasing about the new façade. The clean pre-cast concrete panels are shockingly white, and have deeply set back windows. The molecular pattern and forms of sugar crystals inspired the unusual design, as an homage to the Domino Sugar Factory that used to dominate the Williamsburg waterfront.

YIMBY Tours 325 Kent Avenue As Domino Park’s Public Opening Set for June 10th

As construction continues on one of the city’s largest waterfront developments, YIMBY took a tour of 325 Kent Avenue, ahead of Domino Park’s opening on June 10^th. Once it opens, the park is expected to be the largest public space in the Five Boroughs to debut in 2018. The landscaped area extends over six acres, one acre more than the Hudson Yards plaza opening this Fall.

Domino Park Nears Public Debut As Crane Rises for COOKFOX-Designed 260 Kent Avenue

In less than eight weeks, the Domino Sugar Factory’s redevelopment is expected to open up six acres of landscaped public space on 1,200 feet of the Williamsburg waterfront. Two Trees Management is developing the land, immediately north of the Williamsburg Bridge. The master plan includes square-arch motifs in three of the four new buildings, indicative of this project’s relationship with the bridge as the gateway to North Brooklyn. The public space has been designed by James Corner Field Operations, who also designed the new High Line Park.

NYC’s First Whole Foods Market 365 Opening in January at 300 Ashland Place, Fort Greene, Brooklyn

The completion of Two Trees’ tower at 300 Ashland Place has opened several opportunities for new retail in the neighborhood, and within the new storefronts, New York City’s first Whole Foods Market 365 is expected to open on Wednesday, January 31^st. The grocery store is an offshoot of its parent company, and will feature cheaper prices with competitive selections marketed towards budget-conscious families, students, and commuters. The location is officially Fort Greene, Brooklyn, but it sits very close to Downtown Brooklyn.
