95-Story Supertall Planned for Jersey City Waterfront at 55 Hudson Street

In New York City, the current real estate boom has left the largest marks on the Midtown Manhattan and Downtown Brooklyn skylines, but the rise of Jersey City over the past few years has been equally if not more impressive. And while the latest additions across the Hudson have been predominantly residential, YIMBY has word that a 95-story tower is now in the works at 55 Hudson Street, which could make it the tallest building in both Jersey City, and all of New Jersey.

First Journal Squared Tower Now 19 Stories Tall, Jersey City

In October 2014, YIMBY reported on the ground breaking of a 54-story, 538-unit residential tower in the heart of Jersey City’s Journal Square neighborhood. The building, the first within the larger Journal Squared project, now stands 19 stories tall, and is slated for completion in mid-2016, per The Jersey Journal. The other two towers will stand 60 and 70 stories, containing 600 and 700 additional residential units respectively. Kushner Real Estate Group is developing, while HWKN and Handel Architects are designing.

Six-Story, 163-Unit Residential Building Rises At 715 Jersey Avenue, Jersey City’s Hamilton Park

A six-story, 163-unit residential building is currently four stories up at 715 Jersey Avenue, in Jersey City’s Hamilton Park neighborhood, on 10th Street. According to The Jersey Journal, the building sits on a 12-foot embankment, where a railway once operated; Conrail abandoned the rail line back in 1995. Completion is expected next summer, and LeFrak is developing the project, dubbed Embankment House. The same developer is also planning an identical residential building a block to the west, between Coles and Mammoth Streets.

56-Story, 744-Unit Mixed-Use Tower Proposed At One Journal Square, Jersey City

Earlier this year, Kushner Companies and KABR Group acquired the development site at One Journal Square, in Jersey City’s Journal Square neighborhood, and now an initial rendering has surfaced of the project’s first tower. Proposed at 56 stories and 666 feet, the 1.1 million square-foot building will have 744 residential units, with 120,000 square feet of retail and office space in its nine-story base, per The Jersey Journal. The Planning Board has not yet approved the tower. Last year, YIMBY revealed Humphreys & Partners’ now-outdated proposal.
