New York City Opens RFP Process For New Modular Public Restroom Units

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has announced a $4 million initiative to expand access to public restrooms citywide through a new Request for Proposals (RFP) aimed at sourcing modular public restroom units. The program, led by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), will launch within the first 100 days of the administration and intends to speed up installation timelines and reduce costs compared to past projects. This initiative draws inspiration from similar efforts in cities such as Los Angeles, Portland, and Washington, D.C.

Demolition is progressing at 185 East 80th Street, the site of a 34-story residential skyscraper on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects and developed by Skyline Developers, the 497-foot-tall structure will yield 61 condominium units and 2,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Hill West Architects is the architect of record for the project, which is alternately addressed as 1410–1418 Third Avenue and located at the corner of Third Avenue and East 80th Street.

Construction is nearing topping out on 1448 Third Avenue, a 39-story mixed-use tower in the Yorkville section of Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Designed by CetraRuddy Architecture and developed by Douglaston Development, the 478-foot-tall structure will span 287,632 square feet and yield 125 condominium units with an average scope of 1,804 square feet. The building will also contain 40,864 square feet of commercial space, 21,224 square feet of community facility space, a cellar level, and a 20-foot-long rear yard. The property is alternately addressed as 175 East 82nd Street and located at the corner of Third Avenue and East 82nd Street.
