Construction Nearly Complete For 338 West 36th Street in Midtown, Manhattan

Back in June of 2015, the McSam Hotel Group disclosed plans to incorporate a portion of the façade of a six-story Gothic church, at 334 West 36th Street into a new hotel development. Today, construction is nearly complete, with interior fit outs underway. Contrary to the depiction in the rendering, it appears the old Gothic church was completely razed, with a facsimile of the facade replacing the extant original.

Permits have been filed for a nine-story mixed-use building at 740 Brook Avenue, in Melrose, The Bronx. Located between East 156th and East 157th Streets, the corner site is one block east of the neighborhood’s main thoroughfare, Third Avenue. Less than a half mile east is the Jackson Avenue subway station serviced by the 2 and 5 trains. New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development is listed as the owner behind the applications. In August of 2018, a proposed remedy was released by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) to address brownfield contamination so the site can be redeveloped.

Final Segment of 53 West 53rd Street’s Apex Installed Atop Midtown Manhattan

Last week, the final piece of the third and highest apex of Jean Nouvel’s first residential skyscraper was anchored and installed over Midtown. 53 West 53rd Street now stands 1,050 feet tall, and is currently the 7th-tallest skyscraper under construction in New York City. With its distinct pointed crown and dark diagrid facade, it is certainly a very unique building, and has been in the making for over a decade. The tower is being developed by Hines, while SLCE Architects and Adamson Associates are the architects of record. The condominiums are being marketed by Corcoran.
