Work is progressing on the renovation of 550 Madison Avenue, a 684-foot-tall commercial skyscraper in Midtown East, with construction underway on Snøhetta‘s triple-height steel-framed glass canopy over its new public garden. Designed by Philip Johnson and John Burgee, the 37-story Postmodern landmark opened in 1984 and is undergoing a 21,000-square-foot overhaul led by The Olayan Groupand RXR Realty that will yield a new café, elevated and ground-level landscaping, expanded seating with additional tables, and public restrooms. AECOM Tishman is the general contractor, Gensler is designing the lobby space, Orange County Ironworks is the steel fabricator, and Gabriel Steel Erectors is assembling the steel over a rectangular space on the western side of 550 Madison Avenue that spans between East 55th and 56th Streets.
A new rendering has been posted for 15 Beekman Street, a 27-story academic center and dormitory for Pace University in the Financial District. Designed by Manish Chadha of Ismael Leyva Architects and developed by SL Green Realty, the 338-foot-tall structure will be alternatively addressed as 126-132 Nassau Street and yield 213,084 square feet of classrooms, dorms, a dining facility, a library, and a learning center. The building will also include a cellar, sub-cellar, and a 20-foot-long rear yard. New Line Structures & Development LLC is the general contractor for the project, which is being built on a plot at the corner of Beekman and Nassau Streets.
Renderings from StudiosC Architecture offer a look at the interior spaces within 260 Gold Street, a new 13-story residential property in Downtown Brooklyn. As described by the project team, the interiors were designed to create a sense of simple elegance with minimal adornments or accessories.
The affordable housing lottery has launched for 1407 Flatbush Avenue, a four-story mixed-use building in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Designed by ND Architecture & Design, the structure yields 22 residences and ground-floor commercial space. Available on NYC Housing Connect are seven units for residents at 130 percent of the area median income (AMI), ranging in eligible income from $65,143 to $167,570.
YIMBY spotted a series of new and updated interior and exterior renderings by DBOX of Penn 15, a massive 1,270-foot supertall designed by Foster + Partners at 15 Penn Plaza. The mammoth 2.8 million-square-foot, 57-story office project is being developed by Vornado Realty Trust and is part of the much larger 7.4 million-square-foot Penn District master plan in Midtown, Manhattan. The redevelopment aims to transform and revitalize the area between Sixth and Seventh Avenues and West 32nd and West 34th Streets with a total of eight new buildings. All of which would surround the 109-year-old James A. Farley Building and Skidmore Owings & Merrill‘s newly opened Moynihan Train Hall, as well as One and Two Penn Plaza and Madison Square Garden, which itself has also seen grandiose proposals to be re-imagined.
