Governor Hochul Announces Three Nominations For State And National Registers Of Historic Places

Governor Kathy Hochul recently announced that three New York City properties have been recommended for historic recognition, highlighting their unique contributions to the city and state’s architectural and cultural heritage. The nominations are part of a broader initiative to preserve New York State’s history, and are three of 15 total properties across New York State that have been proposed for inclusion in the State and National Registers of Historic Places. All three nominations are located in Manhattan.

Governor Hochul Awards Grants for Hudson River Watershed Community Projects

On Tuesday, Governor Kathy Hochul announced the award of approximately $322,000 in funding for four waterfront projects in the New York City metropolitan area. The grants are expected to support a wide range of initiatives, including enhancing recreational areas, expanding river access, and protecting the Hudson River ecosystem.

New permits have been filed for a 28-story mixed-use building at 1440 Amsterdam Avenue in West Harlem, Manhattan. Located between West 129th Street and West 133rd Street, the lot is within walking distance of 125th Street subway station, serviced by the 1 train. Dan Haron of Artimus NYC is listed as the owner behind the applications.

East Midtown Greenway Opens along East River Waterfront in Midtown, Manhattan

Sustainable design and engineering firm Stantec recently celebrated the grand opening of the East Midtown Greenway in Midtown East, Manhattan. Constructed by Skanska, the esplanade is the second of three sections of the East Midtown Waterfront Project and adds nearly 2,000 linear feet of bikeways and walking paths to the East River waterfront.

Designed by SLCE Architects and developed by Fetner Properties, the structure yields 171 residences. Available on NYC Housing Connect are 52 units for residents at 70 to 130 percent of the area median income (AMI), ranging in eligible income from $40,526 to $198,250.

Developers Announce 132,000-Square-Foot Lease Deal at 295 Fifth Avenue In Midtown South, Manhattan

Tribeca Investment Group, PGIM Real Estate, and Meadow Partners have announced a lease agreement with global litigation firm Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP for a 132,000-square-foot space at the fully renovated 295 Fifth Avenue in Midtown South, Manhattan. This relocation marks one of the largest relocations of 2023 in the surrounding area and reflects a trend of traditional industries filling the leasing gap left by technology firms in the neighborhood. CBRE helped facilitate the transaction on behalf of ownership and represented Quinn in the leasing agreement.

The Greenwich Continues to Wrap Up Construction at 125 Greenwich Street in Financial District, Manhattan

Construction is continuing on The Greenwich, an 88-story residential skyscraper at 125 Greenwich Street in Manhattan’s Financial District. Designed by Rafael Viñoly Architects and developed by Fortress Investment Group, Bilgili, and Bizzi & Partners, the 912-foot-tall structure will yield 273 condominium units designed by March & White (MAWD) and marketed by Douglas Elliman Marketing Development, which is aiming to launch sales later this fall. Homes will range from studios to three-bedroom layouts with pricing starting at $1.15 million. Time Square Construction and Plaza Construction are the general contractors for the property, which is located at the corner of Greenwich and Thames Streets, just south of the World Trade Center complex and Liberty Park.

National Black Theatre and Ray Harlem Top Out at 2031 Fifth Avenue in East Harlem

A 21-story residential tower and cultural center has topped out at 2301 Fifth Avenue in East Harlem. The base of the building will house the National Black Theatre, retail space, a multipurpose “communal living room” open to the public. The upper levels of the building will house Ray Harlem, a 222-unit rental component.
