New Preliminary Renderings Revealed for Manhattan Detention Center at 124-125 White Street in Chinatown, Manhattan

A new video by construction company Tutor Perini offers the first glimpses of the Manhattan Detention Center, a proposed 16-story jail at 124-125 White Street in Chinatown, Manhattan. Led by design-build organization Gramercy Group Inc., the $3.8 billion project will stand 295 feet tall on the site of the now-demolished Manhattan Detention Complex (MDC) infamously known as “The Tombs,” and will span 1.25 million square feet. The property is bound by Walker Street to the north, the Manhattan Criminal Court Building to the south, Baxter Street to the east, and Centre Street to the west.

Demolition is finishing up at 124-125 White Street, the site of the Manhattan Detention Complex (MDC) in Chinatown, Manhattan. Led by design-build organization Gramercy Group Inc., the $2.13 billion project will replace the aging detention center known as “The Tombs” with a 15- to 17-story facility standing 295 feet tall and spanning 1.25 million square feet. The property is bound by Walker Street to the north, the Manhattan Criminal Court Building to the south, Baxter Street to the east, and Centre Street to the west. The demolition process is slated to cost $125 million.

C. as the architect for the project, which involves the construction of a three-story reinforced concrete addition above a single-story industrial building formerly occupied by Ferrara Manufacturing. Dutch Vortex LLC is the owner and general contractor for the property, which is located on an interior lot between 37th and 38th Avenues.

Construction is complete on 15 Beekman Street, a 27-story campus expansion for Pace University in the Financial District. Designed by Manish Chadha of Ismael Leyva Architects and developed by SL Green Realty, the 338-foot-tall tower yields 213,084 square feet for classrooms, administrative and faculty offices, common spaces, suite-style dorm rooms, a dining facility, a library and learning center, and the three-floor Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems. New Line Structures & Development was the general contractor for the project, which is alternately addressed as 126-132 Nassau Street and located at the corner of Beekman and Nassau Streets.

Excavation is underway at 4279 Third Avenue, the site of a nine-story Holiday Inn Express by InterContinental Hotels in the Belmont section of The Bronx. Designed by Michael Kang Architect and developed by Neelam Chadha, the 172-foot-tall structure will span 43,789 square feet and yield 86 guest rooms. Supreme Builders Corp. is the general contractor and 2918 Arnow Real Estate Group is the owner of the 6,229-square-foot property, which is bound by Third Avenue to the east, Park Avenue to the west, and East 188th Street to the south.
