On October 27, the Landmarks Preservation Commission will review proposals from the New York City Parks Department to modernize public spaces within Court Square Park in Long Island City. Because the park grounds surround the historic Queens County Court House building constructed between 1872 and 1876, the Parks Department will need a certificate of appropriateness from the LPC.
Jersey City officials recently celebrated the commencement of construction on the city’s new public safety headquarters. Located within the expanding Jackson Square municipal complex in Bergen-Lafayette, the 11-story structure will occupy a parcel at the corner of Martin Luther King Drive and Kearny Avenue.
Façade work is getting close to completion on the United Arab Emirates consulate at 315 East 46th Street in the Midtown East neighborhood of Turtle Bay. The 145-foot-tall, nine-story reinforced concrete structure is designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill, developed by Fisher Brothers, and is being built by Plaza Construction. The topped-out edifice is located just up the street from the future consulate of the Republic of Turkey.
Exterior work is nearing completion on the Turkevi Center, a 563-foot-tall mixed-use skyscraper at 821 First Avenue in the Midtown East neighborhood of Turtle Bay. Only a few minor touches remain to be completed on the podium of the 35-story tower, which is designed by Perkins Eastman and will serve as the consulate for the Republic of Turkey.
Demolition permits have been filed for a five-story, 41,358-square-foot structure at 70 Mulberry Street in Manhattan’s Chinatown. According to the filing, the site is owned by the City’s Department of Citywide Administrative Services. 70 Mulberry Street made headlines in January when the historic building was destroyed in a five-alarm fire.
