Frank J. Guarini Justice Complex Rises at 595 Newark Avenue in Jersey City

Construction is rising on the Frank J. Guarini Justice Complex, a massive new government building at 595 Newark Avenue in the Journal Square neighborhood of Jersey City, New Jersey. Designed by bridging architect Rafael Vinoly and design-builder Terminal Construction Corporation, the five-story structure will yield 24 courtrooms, jury assembly spaces, and new offices for the Hudson County prosecutor, the surrogate, and the sheriff, among others. The $345 million development will also house a 75-seat public food court, a self-help law library, a children’s play area, training spaces, and a 459-space parking garage. MAST Construction Services Inc. is the general contractor for the facility, which is rising from an extensive plot bound by Central Avenue to the west, Route 139 to the north, Oakland Avenue to the east, and Newark Avenue to the south. The developers are aiming for LEED Silver certification.

New Census Data Reveals Large Population Gains Across New York City

Population in New York City reached 8.8 million in 2020, an increase of 629,000 since 2010, according to new data released by The Census Bureau. The 2020 census was the 24th count and the first time that households could respond to the census online, a change many are touting led to more accurate data.

9 DeKalb Avenue Becomes Tallest Structure in Brooklyn

9 DeKalb Avenue has passed a milestone in its way to becoming the first supertall skyscraper in the outer boroughs. The 93-story residential tower recently surpassed the 720-foot roof height of Brooklyn Point, giving it the title of the tallest structure in Brooklyn. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS, 9 DeKalb Avenue will stand 1,066 feet tall and yield 450 rental apartments and 150 condominiums. The site is bound by Flatbush Avenue Extension to the northeast, Fleet Street to the northwest, the landmark Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn to the southwest, and DeKalb Avenue to the south.

Jersey City Tapped for Federal Local Food Economy Program

Jersey City has been selected by the Biden Administration as one of 13 cities across America to participate in Local Foods, Local Places (LFLP), a federal partnership program. The initiative will support efforts on the community level to use the local food economy to improve quality of life, protect the environment, and reinvest in existing neighborhoods.

Skidmore Owings & Merrill’s 315 East 46th Street Wraps Up Construction in Turtle Bay, Manhattan

Construction is now complete on 315 East 46th Street, the new nine-story home of the Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations in Turtle Bay, Midtown East. Designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill and developed by Fisher Brothers, the 145-foot-tall structure is located between First and Second Avenues, a short walk from the United Nations.

Front & York’s Exterior Nears Completion at 85 Jay Street in DUMBO, Brooklyn

Exterior work is closing in on completion on Front & York, a 1.1-million-square-foot residential development at 85 Jay Street in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Designed by Morris Adjmi Architects and developed by CIM Group and LIVWRK, the full-block project consists of a pair of 21-story buildings that rise from a multi-level podium. The property will yield a total of 728 apartments with prices for the 408 condominiums starting around $950,000.

Turkevi Center Wraps Up Construction at 821 First Avenue in Turtle Bay, Manhattan

Construction is coming to a close on Turkevi Center, a 35-story mixed-use skyscraper at 821 First Avenue in the Midtown East neighborhood of Turtle Bay. Designed by Perkins Eastman, the 563-foot-tall structure stands at the corner of First Avenue and East 46th Street and will serve as the consulate for the Republic of Turkey.
