Historic Domino Sugar Refinery’s Revised Redevelopment Plans Approved by Landmarks

The Landmark Preservation Commission has approved a new design for the Domino Sugar Factory Refinery building, which is being redeveloped by Two Trees Management Company, and designed by Vishaan Chakrabarti’s Practice for Architecture and Urbanism, aka PAU. The commission made no changes to the proposal, and Two Trees’ Managing Director David Lombino said “Thank you to the Landmarks Preservation Commission for engaging in a productive and thoughtful review, and for supporting this exciting new approach to making the Refinery building the centerpiece of the Domino redevelopment.”

Morris Adjmi-Designed Mixed-Use Building Coming to 625 Driggs Avenue, Williamsburg

YIMBY has the scoop on a six-story mixed-use building coming to 625 Driggs Avenue, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The project is in one of the most active areas of the neighborhood. The Bedford Avenue Subway Station is five blocks away, which is the first stop in Brooklyn for the L train, and the East River waterfront is another five blocks to the west. Redsky Capital, whose business is a three-minute walk from the site, will be responsible for development.

The industrial-inspired exterior takes influence from its surroundings. Residential and manufacturing buildings predominate in the vicinity, and the site is six blocks away from the Cypress Avenue Subway Station, serviced by the 6 train.

Demolition Permits Filed to Make Way for Irish Arts Center at 726 11th Avenue, Hell’s Kitchen

Demolition permits have been filed for 726 11^th Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan. The site is expected to become the center for a new Irish Cultural Center, as reported by YIMBY in 2014. The Center was established in 1972 and has been operating out of a tenement building on West 51^st Street since then, so the new space will offer a major upgrade.

Permits have been filed for an 11-story mid-rise residential building at 123 West 106^th Street, on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The project is situated three blocks from Central Park, and seven blocks from the famously massive yet unfinished Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine. The 1 train and the A, B, and C trains are all a few blocks away. CoSo Apartments will be responsible for the development.

It’s no longer just a rendering; the 54-story Eagle Electric Factory’s redevelopment at 43-22 Queens Street almost has its full façade, as construction nears the finish line. YIMBY last reported on the project one year ago, when construction had reached the 18^th floor. Now, the tower isn’t far off from releasing its 790 new rental apartments, which average 763 square feet apiece. Rockrose Development is responsible for development.

The surrounding area is almost exclusively residential, with a few small commercial locations dotting the avenues nearby. The site is eight blocks away from the Utica Avenue Subway Station, serviced by the A and C trains. The project was put before the Brooklyn Community Board Landmarks Meeting earlier this month, and Romel Salam will be responsible for development.
