Back in 2014, YIMBY sat down with the Mayor of Jersey City, Steven Fulop, to discuss the latest happenings across the Hudson. The city’s skyline has been continuously changing since then, and YIMBY revisited similar topics once more in an interview with the Mayor this week.
Construction is reportedly getting underway on the six-story, 29-unit residential building under development at 61 Newkirk Street, in the Journal Square section of Jersey City. The condominium project will measure roughly 34,000 square feet. Titanium Realty Group and Old City Investment Partners are the developers. Kushner Studios is behind the architecture. The project was recently granted a five-year tax abatement, Jersey Digs reported. A construction timeline has not been disclosed.
Morris County, N.J.-based K.D. Properties is planning to develop a six-story, 25-unit residential project at 469 Newark Avenue, located on the corner of Waldo Avenue in the Journal Square section of Jersey City. The new building will also include a 25-car parking garage on the ground floor, Jersey Digs reported. The Jersey City Board of Adjustments originally approved the project back in 2008, although it only recently received a tax exemption that will expire within five years. The site, which traded hands for $800,000 in 2015, is currently vacant. Construction is expected to be complete by early 2018.
A rendering has been revealed of the planned 15-story, 113-unit mixed-use building at 87 Newkirk Street, in the Journal Square section of Jersey City. The project will measure 129,500 square feet in total, featuring 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space, followed by 21,500 square feet of co-working space on the second and third floors. The residential units above will be rental apartments configured in studios and co-living suites with multiple bedrooms.
Construction has topped out on the 13-story, 240-unit mixed-use building under development at 3 Journal Square Plaza, in Jersey City‘s Journal Square section. Photos of the structure were recently posted to the YIMBY Forums. Dubbed The Residences at 3 Journal Square and revealed by YIMBY roughly a year ago, it will encompass 219,446 square feet. There will be retail space and residential amenities on the ground floor, followed by rental apartments above. Known amenities include a four-level underground parking garage, which the project was built atop, and a rooftop terrace. Hartz Mountain and Panepinto Properties are the developers. Marchetto Higgins Stieve Architects is the design architect and the Childs Dreyfus Group is responsible for the interiors. Tocci Building Companies is managing construction. Completion can probably be expected by the end of the year.
