New York Governor Kathy Hochul recently announced a $7.6 million fund that will help animal shelters and humane societies across the state complete renovation, expansion, and construction projects. Known as the New York State Companion Animal Capital Fund, the funding will support 21 shelters and societies, including two in New York City and four in Long Island.
Construction is in full swing at the Good Samaritan University Hospital campus in West Islip, Long Island, where the medical center will soon debut a 300,000-square-foot patient care pavilion. Led by owner and developer Catholic Health, the development costs hover around $500 million and construction broke ground in May 2022.
Construction is rising on 10-04 Borden Avenue, a three-story commercial building in Long Island City, Queens. Developed and built by The Vorea Group under the Borden Ave Opportunity Zone Business LLC, the 56,000-square-foot structure will feature New York City’s first iFLY indoor skydiving facility and a separate commercial space. The plot spans nearly half an acre by the three-way intersection of Borden Avenue, Vernon Boulevard, and Jackson Avenue.
Riverhead and Amityville, a pair of small towns in Suffolk County, Long Island, are the latest recipients of a $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) award from New York State agencies. The initiative is described as an economic development program and is backed by the Department of State, Empire State Development, the New York State Homes and Community Renewal, and NYSERDA.
