Federal Realty Investment Trust is leading a full redevelopment of Huntington Shopping Center, a major retail destination in Dix Hills, Long Island. The scope of work includes the construction of a new Whole Foods Market, enhancements and repairs to the existing surface-level parking lot, the installation of benches and public seating, and three new vehicular and pedestrian entrances.
Improvements to a 1.7-mile stretch of State Route 112 in Suffolk County, Long Island are now complete. The $32.7 million project spans from Medford to Coram and includes wider travel lanes, new turning lanes at key intersections, pull-off areas for buses, new drains for stormwater runoff, and a landscaped median. Additional improvements include dedicated bike lanes in both directions, new sidewalks, curb ramps, reflective pavement markings, and crossing signals to enhance safety for pedestrians.
The Long Island Railroad’s Willis Avenue station in Mineola is now open following substantial upgrades to improve vehicular traffic flow and eliminate street-level train crossings. The upgrades include a roadway that passes underneath two new railroad bridges.
Governor Andrew Cuomo this week unveiled a multi-billion dollar initiative to revitalize and rebuild infrastructure across New York State. Entitled “Reimagine | Rebuild | Renew,” the 2021 agenda is touted as the largest state infrastructure plan in the country and sets in motion the improvement of state roadways, public transportation, airports, and large swaths of Midtown, Manhattan.
The second quarter of 2020, without a doubt, has brought more upheaval to New York and the United States at large than any period since September of 2001. However, in spite of all of the challenges, the city is continuing to grow: 476 new building permits were filed in the three-month period from April through June, spanning 9,309 multi-family units, with the full rundown of all the new developments in Excel format available at the link. While this was down somewhat from Q2 2019’s 12,123 residential unit filings for the same time period, it was still up substantially from 7,010 filings during Q2 of 2018, indicating that New York City’s economic engine remains revving.
