Number five on YIMBY’s end-of-year countdown is Two World Trade Center, aka 200 Greenwich Street, a 1,350-foot-tall office skyscraper and the last major component of the 16-acre World Trade Center complex. Earlier this year, it was announced that Norman Foster of Foster + Partners would return as the architect for project, which is being developed by Larry Silverstein, head of Silverstein Properties. However, the highly anticipated revamped design of Foster’s original 2006 proposal has yet to be revealed.
Construction is wrapping up on 21-59 44th Drive, a six-story mixed-use building in Long Island City, Queens. Designed by Z Architecture, the structure will bring 20 residential units, 2,600 square feet of retail space, and 361 square feet of community facilities to the northern corner of 44th Drive and 23rd Street.
A former post office in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn will soon be replaced by an 11-story condominium building designed by Issac & Stern Architects. Located on a through-block property at 542 Atlantic Avenue, the new structure will span 90,000 square feet with 43 condominiums and two four-story townhouses.
Villa House, a ten-story affordable housing building by The Doe Fund, has received its Temporary Certificate of Occupancy. Located at 3188 Villa Avenue in Bedford Park, The Bronx, the development will yield 68 units of affordable and supportive housing. Additional partners in the development process include the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, NYC Housing Authority, the Corporation for Supportive Housing, and NYC Human Resources Administration.
Curtain wall installation has begun on 9 DeKalb Avenue, soon to be the outer boroughs’ tallest building at 1,066 feet tall and number six on YIMBY’s construction countdown. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS, the 73-story Downtown Brooklyn residential skyscraper will become the first New York City supertall outside of Manhattan and will yield 425 rental apartments and 150 condominiums.
