100 Flatbush Avenue Tops Out At The Alloy Block in Downtown Brooklyn

Construction has topped out on 100 Flatbush Avenue, a 44-story residential tower at Alloy Block in Downtown Brooklyn. Designed and developed by Alloy Development, the 482-foot-tall structure will be powered entirely by electricity and will yield 441 units with 396 at market rate and 45 dedicated to affordable housing, the latter of which are being developed with Fifth Avenue Committee. The full five-building Alloy Block masterplan will encompass 850 units with 200 permanently affordable apartments, 100,000 square feet of Class A office space, 50,000 square feet of retail space, 500 parking spaces for bikes, two Passive House public schools designed by Architecture Research Office, and space for a local cultural institution. Urban Atelier Group is the general contractor for the property, which is bound by Flatbush Avenue to the northeast, Third Avenue to the northwest, and State Street to the southwest.

Façade Installation Continues on FIT’s New Academic Building at 220 West 28th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan

Façade work is continuing on Fashion Institute of Technology‘s ten-story New Academic Building at 220 West 28th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan. Designed by SHoP Architects, the 110,000-square-foot structure is engineered to achieve LEED Gold certification and will yield classrooms, administrative offices, review and exhibition spaces, and a student quad illuminated by skylights. Forte Construction Corp. is the general contractor for the property, which sits on a shallow plot between Seventh and Eighth Avenues on the northernmost edge of the FIT campus.

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory’s $57M Neuroscience Research Complex Breaks Ground on Long Island

Construction has broken ground on a new seven-acre Neuroscience Research Complex at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in Cold Spring Harbor, a small waterfront hamlet in Suffolk County, Long Island. The complex will add three new buildings and more than 36,000 square feet of labs and research facilities to the campus, which conducts research on developmental neurological disorders like autism and neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Ground Breaks on New Science Play Area at Pier 26 in Manhattan’s Hudson River Park

A new recreational space in Hudson River Park will include play elements inspired by marine science to teach children about the local ecology. The 4,000-square-foot space on Pier 26 at North Moore Street is being developed by the Hudson River Park Trust, who broke ground on the space yesterday. Designed by OLIN, the interactive sculptural elements are inspired by wildlife and the Hudson River habitat and will also serve as an outdoor extension of the environmental programming planned for the future Hudson River Estuarium.

Sunset Yards Debuts at 341 39th Street in Sunset Park, Brooklyn

Sunset Yards, a ten-story converted factory, is now open for business at 341 39th Street in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Completed by New Gables Capital, the building will serve as the new home of the Brooklyn Prospect Sunset Yards Elementary School and New York Studio Factory, a coworking venture that provides space for musicians, producers, artists, and small local businesses.

Gotham Point’s North Tower Wraps Up Construction in Hunters Point South, Queens

At number 21 on YIMBY’s year-end countdown of the tallest projects underway in the city is Gotham Point’s north tower, a 57-story residential skyscraper at 1-15 57th Avenue in Hunters Point South, Queens. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Gotham Organization and Riseboro Community Partnership, the 559-foot-tall structure will yield 692 rental units and is also known as Parcel F in a two-tower master plan alongside the 33-story, 443-foot-tall Parcel G. The property is bound by Center Boulevard to the north, 56th Avenue to the east, and 57th Avenue to the west.
