TF Cornerstone and MSD Partners to Redevelop Grand Hyatt in Midtown East

The Grand Hyatt New York next to Grand Central Terminal may soon be replaced. Developers TF Cornerstone and MSD Partners, L.P. recently announced their plans to redevelop the site in East Midtown, at 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue. The new mixed-use project would take the place of the existing building, adding 2 million square feet of retail and prime class A office space. In addition, the proposal also includes a new (but smaller) Grand Hyatt hotel.

One Vanderbilt Reaches Supertall Territory Above Midtown East, Manhattan

One Vanderbilt is officially the latest skyscraper in New York City to claim supertall status. Located at 41 East 42nd Street in Midtown East, the imminently 1,401-foot tall office building already soars above Grand Central Station, and new steel columns continue to sprout along the perimeter and core, having now punctured the 1,000-foot mark. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox, the upcoming 58-story tower is being developed by SL Green and will span 1.75 million square feet.

Harry Macklowe’s “Tower Fifth” To Become New York City’s Tallest Building By Roof Height, Rising 1,556′ To Pinnacle at 5 East 51st Street, in Midtown East

Skyline-defining towers have proliferated across the Midtown and Lower Manhattan skylines since the start of the 2010s, with the new World Trade Center joined by clusters in Hudson Yards, and 57th Street. Now, as One Vanderbilt approaches the 1,000-foot mark, a new race is appearing on the horizon in Midtown East. First, JPMorgan announced plans for a 1,400-foot-plus behemoth at 270 Park Avenue. Today, renderings have been released for Harry Macklowe’s planned office tower at 5 East 51st Street, which the developer has dubbed “Tower Fifth”. The supertall would become the tallest building in New York City by roof height upon completion, soaring 1,556 feet and six inches above the streets down below.
