Exclusive Renderings Revealed for KPF’s Supertall 343 Madison Avenue, in Midtown East

The first renderings have appeared online for Kohn Pedersen Fox‘s planned 925,630-square-foot supertall at 343 Madison Avenue in Midtown East. While the full presentation from early September has yet to be posted online in spite of the city’s allegedly transparent public hearing process, YIMBY Forumer rgarri has created our own look at the tower and its future position on the Midtown skyline among other supertalls also in the planning stages.

425 Park Avenue’s Curtain Wall Nearing Completion in Midtown East

Exterior work is getting closer to completion on 425 Park Avenue, an 897-foot-tall office skyscraper in Midtown East. Designed by Norman Foster of Foster + Partners and developed by L&L Holding Company LLC with Adamson Associates as the architect of record, the building stands 47 stories tall and will span 666,996 square feet.

JP Morgan’s Demolition of 270 Park Avenue Making Visible Progress in Midtown East

Demolition is moving along on JP Morgan Chase‘s 52-story headquarters at 270 Park Avenue. Formerly referred to as the Union Carbide Building, the financial company is in the midst of razing the 707-foot-tall mid-century skyscraper in order to make way for a 1,425-foot-tall, 2.5-million-square-foot supertall, which will be one of the tallest structures in New York City.

Façade Work Nears Completion at 12 East 48th Street in Midtown East

Exterior work is moving along at 12 East 48th Street, a 367-foot-tall Hilton Grand Vacation Hotel in Midtown East. The 125,000-square-foot tower is designed by Handel Architects and developed by Hidrock Realty and will contain 161 guest rooms. Desimone Consulting Engineers is the structural engineer, The Rinaldi Group is the general contractor, and IBA Consulting & Engineering, PLLC is the envelope consultant for the edifice.

Construction Tops Out at 249 East 50th Street in Turtle Bay, Manhattan

Construction has topped out at 249 East 50th Street, a 15-story residential building in Turtle Bay, Manhattan. Designed by Issac & Stern Architects and developed by Tun Kyaw, the building stands 151 feet tall and will span 50,000 feet.

Demolition Permits Filed for 686 Lexington Avenue in Midtown East

Full demolition permits have been filed for 686 Lexington Avenue and 126 East 57th Street in Midtown East. According to the filings, the two abuting sites are owned by MRR Development, a partnership between Rotem Rosen, Anand Mahindra, and Zahi Hagag. Under the MRR 1326 LLC, the firm also owns the vacant land on the northwest corner of East 56th Street and Lexington Avenue. 126 East 57th Street is a five-story mixed-use building built in 1920 on a 1,665-square-foot lot with six residential units and two commercial units on the ground floor and 686 Lexington Avenue is a five-story office building built in 1922 on a 3,000-square-foot lot.

Supertall Plans for 343 Madison Avenue Reveal New 55-Story and 1,050-Foot-Tall Office Tower, in Midtown East

Plans for 343 Madison Avenue in Midtown East unveil the substantial size and scope of the supertall to take the place of the former Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) headquarters. Boston Properties is developing the project that would comprise 925,630 square feet and rise 1,050 feet tall, with Class A office space above ground-floor retail. The building would yield 5,357 square feet of retail space on the ground floor, 832,613 square feet of commercial office space above, and 84,593 square feet of dedicated mechanical space. The tower would sit on a podium 301 feet tall.

Demo Permits Filed for 417 Park Avenue in Midtown East, Manhattan

Full demolition permits have been filed for 417 Park Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan. According to the filing, the site is owned by GDS Development under the Clover Park Development LLC. It currently houses a 12-story residential building with 28 units. The 143-foot-tall structure was built in 1916 and has a basement, cellar, and penthouse.

‘Ribbon Bridge’ Concepts for Cyclists and Pedestrians Proposed Across Hudson and East Rivers

A consortium of engineers and traffic planners have teamed up on proposals to construct a series of vehicle-free “ribbon” bridges connecting Manhattan to the outer boroughs and New Jersey. The group is led by Samuel Schwartz, former Traffic Commissioner of New York City’s Department of Transportation.

Marx Realty Announces $24 Million Renovation of 545 Madison Avenue in Midtown

Marx Realty has announced an extensive renovation project at 545 Madison Avenue to modernize the Midtown office building. The scope of work includes an overhaul of the lobby, creation of pre-built tenant suites on the third and 14th floors, and the construction of 5,000 square feet of new amenity spaces. According to representatives from the company, total construction costs for the project hover around $24 million and represent the growing demand for offices with hospitality-oriented amenities.
