YIMBY went to check in on the progress of demolition and excavation for Disney’s new 1.2-million-square-foot headquarters at 137 Varick Street, aka Four Hudson Square, in Lower Manhattan. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and developed in partnership with Silverstein Properties, the 22-story building is slated to stand 320 feet tall. Skanska is overseeing the demolition process for the Hudson Square property, which Disney purchased from Trinity Church Real Estate for $650 million.

Construction has reached the top of the podium section at 1245 Broadway, a 23-story, 200,000-square-foot commercial office building NoMad. Workers from StructureTech NY and Triton Construction are continuing to tie the steel rebar and build the formwork for the reinforced concrete perimeter columns and floor slabs. Designed by Skidmore Owings and Merrill and co-developed by GDSNY and Sweden-based Klovern, the building will eventually top out at 318 feet tall. CBRE began leasing the building’s class A office space in late 2019.
Construction is nearing completion on the United Arab Emirates’ new consulate at 315 East 46th Street in the Midtown East neighborhood of Turtle Bay. Located just up the street from the future consulate of the Republic of Turkey, the 145-foot-tall, nine-story reinforced concrete structure is designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill, developed by Fisher Brothers, and is being built by Plaza Construction.
Work is ramping up at the site of Two Manhattan West, a forthcoming 935-foot-tall commercial skyscraper and number 12 on YIMBY’s countdown of the tallest projects underway in the city. The final component of the Manhattan West complex, the 58-story tower will join its nearly identical sibling One Manhattan West, though it will cap off with a slightly shorter parapet. Skidmore Owings & Merrill is the designer and Brookfield is the developer of the two-million-square-foot project.
Permits have been filed for a six-story office building at 118 Tenth Avenue in Chelsea, Manhattan. Located between West 17th Street and West 18th Street, the lot is four blocks from the 14th Street subway station, serviced by the A, C, E, and L trains. GDSNY under the Highline 118 LLC is listed as the owner behind the applications.
