Foundations Progress for Columbia University Tower at 600 West 125th Street in Manhattanville, Manhattan

Foundation work is progressing at 600 West 125th Street, the site of a 34-story tower on Columbia University‘s Manhattanville campus. Designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop with CetraRuddy Architecture as the executive architect and developed by the Trustees of Columbia University, the 391-foot-tall structure will yield 175,000 square feet with 141,565 square feet of community facility space, 5,000 square feet of commercial space, and 142 residences for graduate students and faculty. Pavarini Govern is the general contractor and LERA is the structural engineer for the property, which is located at the corner of West 125th Street and Broadway, adjacent to the elevated 125th Street 1 train station. Thornton Tomasetti is serving as the facade consultant.

Claremont Hall’s Façade Nears Completion at 100 Claremont Avenue in Morningside Heights, Manhattan

Construction is nearing completion on Claremont Hall, a 41-story residential tower at 100 Claremont Avenue in Morningside Heights, Manhattan. Designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects and SLCE Architects and developed by Lendlease, Daiwa House Texas, and LMXD, an affiliate of L+M Development Partners, the 354,000-square-foot structure will yield 165 condominium units in one- to four-bedroom layouts as well as classrooms, office space, and faculty housing for Union Theological Seminary. Lendlease is the general contractor for the property, which is located by the corner of Claremont Avenue and West 122nd Street.

55 Suffolk Street’s Brick Façade Nears Completion on Manhattan’s Lower East Side

Façade installation is finishing up on 55 Suffolk Street, a 30-story residential tower in the two-building Broome Street Development complex on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Designed by Dattner Architects and developed by Gotham Organization, the 310-foot-tall structure stands directly to the east of The Norfolk Senior Housing Building, its 16-story sibling at 64 Norfolk Street. The complex rises from a shared podium and will yield a combined 387,223 square feet with 493 rental units, of which 43 percent will be dedicated to permanently affordable housing. Monadnock Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is located between Suffolk and Norfolk Streets.

FIT’s New Academic Building Tops Out at 220 West 28th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan

Construction has topped out on Fashion Institute of Technology‘s ten-story New Academic Building at 220 West 28th Street in the Garment District of Chelsea. Designed by SHoP Architects, the 110,000-square-foot structure is engineered to achieve LEED Gold certification and will yield new classrooms, administrative offices, review and exhibition spaces, and a student quad illuminated by skylights. EE Cruz & Company is the general contractor for the Midtown, Manhattan project, which is located between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, within close proximity of Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, and Moynihan Train Hall.

Laurel Road Joins ‘Zero Irving’ at 124 East 14th Street in Union Square, Manhattan

Laurel Road is the latest office tenant to join Zero Irving, a 21-story mixed-use tower at 124 East 14th Street near Union Square in Manhattan. The digital financial services company will occupy a 15,240-square-foot suite on the building’s 11th floor.

Exterior Work Wraps on NYU’s Expansion at 181 Mercer Street in Greenwich Village, Manhattan

Construction is nearing completion on 181 Mercer Street, NYU‘s expansion in Greenwich Village. Designed by Davis Brody Bond and KieranTimberlake, the three-tower structure will yield 735,000 square feet and is expected to achieve LEED gold certification. Turner Construction Company is the general contractor for the property, which occupies a full block between Houston, Mercer, and Bleecker Streets and I.M. Pei’s University Village complex. The project is the culmination of more than a decade of planning and underwent numerous design changes before ground broke in 2018.

425 Grand Concourse Completes Construction in Mott Haven, The Bronx

Construction is complete on 425 Grand Concourse, a 26-story mixed-use building in Mott Haven, The Bronx and one of the largest Passive House structures in the city. Designed by Dattner Architects and developed by Trinity Financial and MBD Community Housing Corporation, the 310,000-square-foot project yields 277 residential units, with 248 units for residents earning 30 to 130 percent of the area median income, as well as a supermarket, a community health center, a cultural center, and a 30,000-square-foot educational facility for CUNY’s Hostos Community College. Monadnock Construction served as the general contractor for the development, which is located between Grand Concourse to the east, East 144th Street to the south, Walton Avenue to the west, and Evelina Antonetty Playground and Hostos Community College to the immediate north.

Permits have been filed for a 27-story mixed-use building at 76 Varick Street in Hudson Square, Manhattan. Also known as Two Hudson Square, the lot is bound by Canal Street to the south, Varick Street to the west, Grand Street to the north, and Sullivan Street and Duarte Square to the east. The 450,380-square-foot building is a joint venture between Taconic Investment Partners and Nuveen.

Alloy Block’s 100 Flatbush Avenue Begins Ascent in Downtown Brooklyn

Construction is now rising on 100 Flatbush Avenue, a 44-story residential building in the Alloy Block multi-tower complex in Downtown Brooklyn. Designed and developed by Alloy Development, the 482-foot-tall structure will yield 441 units, with 45 reserved for affordable housing. The project was initially slated to feature 100,000 square feet of office space, but this has been scrapped in favor of 184 additional apartments. Urban Atelier Group is the contractor for the property, which is located on a trapezoidal plot bound by Flatbush Avenue to the northeast, State Street to the southwest, and Third Avenue to the northwest.
