Excavation and pilings are progressing at 37-18 138th Street, the site of a nine-story commercial building in Flushing, Queens. Designed by Akaia Architecture with Angelo Ng & Anthony Ng Architects Studio as the architect of record, and developed by New Age Developers LLC, the 120-foot-tall structure will yield 65,000 square feet of commercial space to be occupied by restaurants, retail, offices, and a rooftop bar, as well as 27,000 square feet of medical office space. The property is bound by 37th Avenue to the north, 38th Avenue to the south, and 138th Street to the east.

Façade Installation Begins At Magnolia Gardens at 39-03 College Point Boulevard in Flushing, Queens

Façade installation is beginning on Magnolia Gardens, a seven-story transitional residential and community facility at 39-03 College Point Boulevard in Flushing, Queens. Designed by Urban Architectural Initiatives and developed by Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE) under Magnolia Gardens Developer Inc., the 72-foot-tall structure will yield 62,932 square feet of community facility space, 90 supportive housing units sponsored by the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development, and a 30-foot-long rear yard. Urban Resources Institute (URI) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS) will manage the facilities at the property, which is alternately addressed as 133-04 39th Avenue and located at the intersection of College Point Boulevard and 39th Avenue.

Two-Skyscraper Proposal Revealed For 629 West 54th Street, 801 Eleventh Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan

Proposals have been revealed for a pair of mixed-use skyscrapers at 629 West 54th Street and 801 Eleventh Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan. Designed by Hill West Architects and developed by The Chapman Group and Friedland Properties, the project consists of a 42-story tower standing 565 feet tall at 629 West 54th Street and a 38-story, 525-foot-tall tower at 801 Eleventh Avenue. The former will yield 617 rental units, with 154 reserved for affordable housing, as well as 84,359 square feet of commercial space, while the latter will house 447 rental units, with 119 slated for affordable housing, and 64,392 square feet of commercial space. The skyscrapers will rise from opposite corners of two separate city blocks bound by West 55th Street to the north, West 54th Street to the south, Eleventh Avenue to the east, and Twelfth Avenue to the west.

New renderings have been revealed for Highbridge, a 31-story residential building under construction at 1387 University Avenue in Highbridge, The Bronx. Designed by Magnusson Architecture and Planning PC and developed by Samaritan Daytop Village, the 333,508-square-foot structure will yield 422 units comprised of 125 affordable homes, 190 supportive housing units, 106 transitional housing units for families, and one unit for the superintendent, as well as 5,300 square feet of common spaces. The fully electric development is aiming for Passive House certification and will be located on a 45,453-square-foot interior lot overlooking the Harlem River between Boscobel Place to the north and Highbridge Park to the south.

New Preliminary Renderings Revealed for Manhattan Detention Center at 124-125 White Street in Chinatown, Manhattan

A new video by construction company Tutor Perini offers the first glimpses of the Manhattan Detention Center, a proposed 16-story jail at 124-125 White Street in Chinatown, Manhattan. Led by design-build organization Gramercy Group Inc., the $3.8 billion project will stand 295 feet tall on the site of the now-demolished Manhattan Detention Complex (MDC) infamously known as “The Tombs,” and will span 1.25 million square feet. The property is bound by Walker Street to the north, the Manhattan Criminal Court Building to the south, Baxter Street to the east, and Centre Street to the west.
