Construction Progresses on Two-Tower Complex at 1 Java Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Construction is continuing on 1 Java Street, a two-tower residential complex along the East River in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Designed by Marvel Designs and developed and built by Lendlease, the project will yield 834 rental units across the two structures, the taller of which will stand 37 stories and 402 feet tall. Aware Super is the joint developer, INC Architecture & Design is the interior designer for the public areas, and Crème is the interior designer for the townhouse units at the complex, which is alternately addressed as 18 India Street and occupies a full block bound by India Street to the north, Java Street to the south, West Street to the east, and the India Street pier over the East River to the west.

YIMBY spotted a new series of exterior renderings for 1 Java Street, a two-tower residential complex along the East River in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Designed by Marvel Architects and developed and built by Lendlease, which secured a $360 million construction loan at the end of 2022, the ground-up project will yield 834 rental units across the two structures, the taller of which will stand 37 stories and 402 feet tall. Construction is finished on 35 Commercial Street, a 22-story, 100-percent affordable housing building in the Greenpoint Landing mega-complex in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Park Tower Group along with Greenpoint Landing Associates, New York City’s Housing Preservation & Development (HPD), and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the structure yields 374 permanently affordable apartments and 7,600 square feet of lower-level retail space. The all-electric project is bound by Commercial and Clay Streets to the south and Bell Slip to the west.

Designed by StudiosC and developed by Yidel Hirsch, the structure yields 80 residences, ground-floor retail, and a garage with 32 parking spaces. Available on NYC Housing Connect are 24 units for residents at 80 to 130 percent of the area median income (AMI), ranging in eligible income from $55,680 to $165,230.
