KPF’s 520 Fifth Avenue Reaches 1,002-Foot Pinnacle in Midtown, Manhattan

At number four on YIMBY’s annual countdown of the tallest construction projects in New York is 520 Fifth Avenue, a 1,002-foot mixed-use supertall skyscraper in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Rabina, the 88-story structure will span 415,000 square feet and yield 100 condominium units, a residents-only amenity floor on level 88, 25 boutique office floors, a private members-only club called Moss, and four cellar levels. The property is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and West 43rd Street, one block north of Bryant Park.

989 Sixth Avenue Rises Quickly in Midtown, Manhattan

At number eight on our year-end countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in New York is 989 Sixth Avenue, a 785-foot-tall mixed-use skyscraper in the Garment District of Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by C3D Architecture and developed by Sioni Group under the 989 Sixth Realty LLC, the 68-story structure will span 384,118 square feet and yield 300 condominium units with an average scope of 991 square feet, as well as 86,817 square feet of commercial space and two cellar levels. The property is alternately addressed as 100 West 37th Street and located at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and West 37th Street.

Renderings Revealed for 47-Story Skyscraper at 70 Hudson Yards in Hudson Yards, Manhattan

Construction could soon begin on 70 Hudson Yards, a proposed 47-story office skyscraper in Hudson Yards, Manhattan. The 1.1-million-square-foot structure is being designed by Roger Ferris+ Partners and Gensler and developed by Related Companies and Oxford Properties, which are currently in discussions with potential tenants. The building is planned to become New York’s first zero-carbon emission skyscraper and will rise from an assemblage of two adjacent parcels bound by West 36th and 35th Streets to the north and south, The Set at 451 Tenth Avenue to the east, and Hudson Boulevard East and Bella Abzug Park to the west.

Demolition Concludes for SOM-Designed Skyscraper at 12 West 57th Street in Midtown, Manhattan

At number 11 on our countdown of the tallest construction projects in New York is 12 West 57th Street, a forthcoming 672-foot-tall residential skyscraper along Billionaires’ Row in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill and developed by Sheldon Solow of Solow Management Corp., the 52-story structure will take the place of multiple former low- and mid-rise buildings between Fifth and Sixth Avenues and West 56th and 57th Streets.

Hotel Meta’s Façade Nears Completion at 450 Eleventh Avenue in Hudson Yards, Manhattan

The 12th-tallest building on our annual construction countdown is Hotel Meta, a 642-foot-tall hotel at 450 Eleventh Avenue in Hudson Yards. Designed by DSM Design Group and developed by Marx Development Group, the 51-story structure will yield 379 guest rooms and amenities including a business center, a ballroom, banquet and conference spaces, a spa, fitness center, and a multi-level restaurant with a bar and outdoor terrace. The property will be operated by Marriott Hotels and is located at the corner of West 37th Street and Eleventh Avenue, directly across from the Jacob K. Javits Center.

Excavation Progresses for RIU Hotel Skyscraper at 1710 Broadway in Midtown, Manhattan

At number 13 on our year-end countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in New York is 1710 Broadway, a 633-foot-tall hotel skyscraper in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Moss Architects and developed by RIU Hotels and Resorts, the 54-story structure will yield 673 hotel rooms, as well as two 300-seat restaurants and a lounge bar. The 8,848-square-foot development site has 129 feet of frontage at the corner of Broadway and West 54th Street.

LPC to Review Renovation, Expansion Proposal for Imperial Theatre at 249 West 45th Street in Midtown, Manhattan

The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission is set to review a proposal for the renovation and expansion of the Imperial Theatre, a 101-year-old Broadway theater at 249 West 45th Street in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Kostow Greenwood Architects for the Schubert Organization, the project is planned to include the overhaul and expansion of the lobby building, historical restoration of the auditorium interiors, and upgrades to the facility’s mechanical systems. The property is located between Seventh and Eighth Avenues.

The Maybury Wraps Up Construction At 550 Tenth Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan

At number 17 on our year-end countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in New York is The Maybury, a 520-foot-tall residential skyscraper wrapping up work at 550 Tenth Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen. Designed by Handel Architects and developed by Gotham Organization and Goldman Sachs Asset Management JV, the 47-story structure spans 430,000 square feet and yields 453 rental units, with 137 reserved for affordable housing, as well as 9,000 square feet of lower-level retail space, over 20,000 square feet of amenities, and 26,764 square feet of administrative office space for Covenant House. GO Covenant LLC is the owner of the property, which is located along Tenth Avenue between West 40th and 41st Streets.

New Immersive Art Installation Announced for Freedom Plaza In Midtown East, Manhattan

An immersive public art installation, Path of Liberty: That Which Unites US, is coming to Freedom Plaza in Midtown East, Manhattan. Slated to open in spring 2025, the exhibition will span six acres from 38th to 41st Street on First Avenue, and is made possible by the Soloviev Foundation. It was designed by multi-specialty creative studio C&G Partners, with direction from award-winning filmmaker Daniella Vale.

Xadia Hotel’s Glass Façade Begins Installation at 58 West 39th Street in Midtown, Manhattan

The 21st-tallest building on YIMBY’s year-end construction countdown is the Xadia Hotel, a 475-foot-tall hotel tower at 58 West 39th Street in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Marin Architects and developed by Wei Hong Hu under the H Hotel LLC, the 42-story structure will yield 173 guest rooms and amenities including a restaurant, an arcade, and a rooftop bar. The project is located on a narrow interior plot between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, one block south of Bryant Park.
