Rolex USA Headquarters Reaches Halfway Mark at 665 Fifth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan

At number 22 on YIMBY’s countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in New York is 665 Fifth Avenue, a 469-foot-tall office building that will house the US headquarters for Rolex in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by David Chipperfield Architects with Adamson Associates as the architect of record and developed by the Rolex Realty Company, the 28-story structure will yield 199,000 square feet of office and retail space for the world-famous watchmaker. The ground-up project is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and East 53rd Street.

Future of Fifth Partnership Gets $152.7 Million In Funding To Transform Fifth Avenue In Midtown, Manhattan

New York City recently issued $152.7 million in funding to the Future of Fifth Partnership, an organization which aims to transform Fifth Avenue into a pedestrian-centered boulevard between Bryant Park and Central Park in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed in partnership between Sam Schwartz and Field Operations, the project plans to nearly double the width of sidewalks along Fifth Avenue to 33.5 feet each and introduce more than 230 new trees, along with approximately 20,000 square feet of planters, seating, and activation spaces.

32 West 48th Street’s Curtain Wall Nears Completion in Midtown, Manhattan

The 25th-tallest building on our year-end construction countdown is 32 West 48th Street, a 456-foot-tall boutique hotel tower to be called the Kimpton Midtown NYC in the Diamond District of Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by SLCE Architects and developed by Extell, the 31-story structure will span 213,158 square feet and yield 534 guest rooms operated by Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, with an average scope of 316 square feet. The property is located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, directly south of Rockefeller Center, with a narrow annex extending south to West 47th Street. INC Architecture & Design is handling interior design work.

Façade Work Continues on 125 West 57th Street in Midtown, Manhattan

At number 28 on our countdown of the tallest construction projects in New York is 125 West 57th Street, a 26-story commercial building on Billionaires’ Row in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by FXCollaborative and developed by Alchemy-ABR Investment Partners and Cain International, the 420-foot-tall structure will span 260,000 square feet and yield 185,000 square feet of full-floor Class A office space, a dedicated amenities floor designed by Gensler, 7,000 square feet of retail space, and a new home for the Calvary Baptist Church, which has operated on the site since 1883 and sold the property to the developers for $150 million in 2017. The project is located on an interior lot between Sixth and Seventh Avenues between Christian de Portzamparc’s One57 and SHoP Architects’ 111 West 57th Street.

New Renderings Revealed For 343 Madison Avenue In Midtown East, Manhattan

New renderings have been revealed for 343 Madison Avenue, a 46-story commercial skyscraper in Midtown East, Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by BXP, the 46-story tower will yield 950,000 square feet of office space and a collection of tenant amenities. The property is located along Madison Avenue between East 44th and 45th Streets.

Fifth Billionaires’ Row Supertall Remains on Hold at 41-47 West 57th Street in Midtown, Manhattan

Next up on our Turkey Week countdown of stalled projects in New York City is 41-47 West 57th Street, a proposed 1,100-foot mixed-use supertall skyscraper on Billionaires’ Row in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by OMA and developed by Sedesco, the 63-story structure is slated to yield 119 condominium units with an average scope of 1,992 square feet, as well as a 158-room hotel spanning 205,100 square feet from floors two through 20, and a 10,212-square-foot restaurant. The property is situated an interior plot between Fifth and Sixth Avenues with frontage on both West 57th and West 58th Streets.

Work Stalls on The Torch at 740 Eighth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan

Kicking off our annual Turkey Week rundown of stalled projects in New York City is The Torch, a 1,067-foot mixed-use supertall skyscraper at 740 Eighth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by ODA with SLCE Architects as the architect of record and developed by Extell, the 52-story structure is planned to span 875,372 square feet and yield an 825-room hotel topped by a public outdoor observation deck with a drop ride attraction in the signature stemlike column. The property would also feature lower-level retail space, a restaurant on two of the upper floors, a VIP lounge, and a pool deck for hotel guests. The property is located along Eighth Avenue between West 45th and 46th Streets on the border of Times Square and Hell’s Kitchen.

Rendering Revealed for 245 West 55th Street’s Expansion in Midtown, Manhattan

A new rendering has been revealed for 245 West 55th Street, an 18-story renovation and expansion in Midtown, Manhattan. Developed by New Jersey-based Mandelbaum & Mandelbaum under the 245 West 55th St LLC, the project involves the construction of six new stories above the roof parapet of the current 135-foot-tall mixed-use building, as well as the gut renovation of its 70,000 square feet of interiors and possible residential conversion of its commercial space. The site’s zoning also permits the structure’s renovation for boutique office use, though it is currently unclear which option the developer is pursuing. The property is located on an interior lot between Eighth Avenue and Broadway.

The Elisa Wraps Up Construction at 251 West 14th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan

Work is wrapping up on The Elisa, an 11-story residential building at 251 West 14th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan. Designed by Isay Weinfeld Architects, the 33,550-square-foot structure will yield 25 condominium units in one- to three-bedroom layouts. The property is located on an interior lot between Seventh and Eighth Avenues near the border of the West Village and the Meatpacking District.

Façade Installation Continues on 18 West 55th Street in Midtown, Manhattan

A Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) panel façade installation by PG New York continues on 18 West 55th Street, a 26-story residential building in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Morris Adjmi Architects and developed and built by Skyline Developers, which purchased the property for $83 million in 2017 under the 18 West 55th Street LLC, the 289-foot-tall structure will span 152,084 square feet and yield 97 rental units with an average scope of 1,319 square feet, as well as 6,380 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and a 10,343-square-foot cellar level. The project is located on a formerly vacant interior lot between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, next to the Peninsula Hotel.
