Back in September of 2016, YIMBY reported on permits filed for two new buildings coming to 127-129 Troutman Street, in western Bushwick. Now, we have the reveal for the project, which is being developed by Moshe Friedman and designed by Brooklyn-based BEAM Group.
Hudson Yards is making major progress, with Related’s core redevelopment over the Eastern Yards now racing towards completion. While progress on the Western Yards is still a few years away, another large site on the southern side of West 30th Street is set for an impressive transformation from under-used retail and industrial buildings into a two-towered residential and commercial project that will top-out 700 feet above street level.
New building applications for single and multi-family residential developments in New York City saw a major slowdown in 2016, as the fading boom following the changes that occurred at the Department of Buildings in 2014 began to slack further. Back at the end of 2014, YIMBY reported on the first permits for Ceruzzi Properties’ new tower at 520 Fifth Avenue, on the corner of West 43rd Street. The building will rise 71 floors and 920 feet to its roof, with a design by Handel Architects that YIMBY can now reveal thanks to eagle-eyed Forum user YIM_Hudson.
As Mayor de Blasio’s initiatives to create affordable housing continue to fail, bright spots for advocates of a better and more inclusive New York City are few and far between. In the Two Bridges area of the Lower East Side, JDS, Extell, CIM, L+M, and the Starrett Group are planning five new towers with 700 affordable units. NIMBYs don’t care. Despite all that affordable housing, red herrings went flying at a community meeting last night, and the echo chamber of outrage reverberated all the way onto the internet.
