217 Duffield Street in Downtown Brooklyn Gets Demolished for Park and Parking Garage

It’s been a few years since the city’s Economic Development Corporation announced plans to develop a 700-unit underground parking garage on Willoughby Street in Downtown Brooklyn and create a one-acre green space on top. Now, the park, Willoughby Square, is one step closer to reality, as the city prepares to demolish an office building at 217 Duffield Street, between Willoughby and Fulton streets. Prolific construction photographer Tectonic brought us photos of what the site looks like now.

32-Story, 440-Unit Mixed-Use Tower Rises to 26th Floor at 86 Fleet Place, Downtown Brooklyn

Construction is now underway on the 26th floor of the planned 32-story, 440-unit mixed-use building under development at 86 Fleet Place, in Downtown Brooklyn. The progress can be seen thanks to photos posted to the YIMBY Forums by user nyc1. The latest building permits indicate the 351-foot-tall tower will eventually encompass 427,346 square feet. It will host 10,813 square feet of commercial-retail space on the ground floor, followed by residential units averaging 871 square feet apiece. Since a leasing office is included, at least a number of the units will be rental apartments. The residential amenities are listed in YIMBY’s previous March update, when the structure was a single story up. John Catsimatidis’s Red Apple Group is the developer and Goldstein, Hill & West Architects is behind the architecture. Completion is expected in 2017.

11-Story, Mixed-Use Building Takes Shape at 239 Atlantic Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn

A long-stalled, 11-story mixed-use development at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Boerum Place in Downtown Brooklyn is finally taking shape. Construction chronicler Tectonic recently swung by the site to capture the progress, and the bottom retail floors are already getting glassed up.

12-Story, 179,000-Square-Foot Medical-Office Building Tops Out at 620 Fulton Street, Downtown Brooklyn

Construction has topped out on the 12-story, 178,958-square-foot medical facility-office building under development at 620 Fulton Street, in Downtown Brooklyn, as seen in photos posted to the YIMBY Forums by JC_Heights. The project is being built by the New York Hotel Trades & Hotel Association of New York City Employee Benefit Fund, which is an organization that provides medical and social services to hotel union workers. It will serve as their Brooklyn branch. Health care facilities, totaling 65,000 square feet, will be located on the ground through fifth floors, followed by 70,000 square feet of office space on the sixth through 11th floors. There will also be 20,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor and a restaurant. TriBeCa-based Francis Cauffman is behind the design. Façade installation has not yet begun, although completion is expected before 2017.

One Boerum Place’s Exterior Wrapping Up in Downtown Brooklyn

Finishing touches are underway on One Boerum Place, a 22-story residential building in Downtown Brooklyn. Designed by SLCE Architects and developed by Avery Hall Investments, Allegra Holdings, and Aria Development Group, the $250 million project will yield 96 market-rate rentals with interiors designed by Gachot Studios. Nancy Packes, Inc. is in charge of leasing the units, which hit the market this spring and range from one- to four-bedroom layouts with access to a wide range of indoor and outdoor amenities. One Boerum Place is located on a relatively narrow parcel bound by Boerum Place to the west, Fulton Street to the north, and Red Hook Lane to the east. Occupancy at One Boerum Place has already commenced. Leeding Builders Group, LLC is the general contractor for the building.

9 DeKalb Avenue Approaches Supertall Status in Downtown Brooklyn

Construction is continuing to rise on 9 DeKalb Avenue, a 93-story residential skyscraper in Downtown Brooklyn, as the structure nears the 984-foot-tall threshold that will make it the first supertall in the outer boroughs. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS, the 1,066-foot-tall project will yield 400 rental apartments, 30 percent of which are marketed at affordable housing rates, and 150 condominiums above a retail podium bound by Flatbush Avenue Extension to the northeast, Fleet Street to the northwest, the landmark Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn to the southwest, and DeKalb Avenue to the south.

141 Willoughby Street’s Superstructure Nears Halfway Mark in Downtown Brooklyn

Construction is nearing the halfway mark on 141 Willoughby Street, a 24-story commercial building in Downtown Brooklyn. Designed by Fogarty Finger with SLCE as the executive architect and developed by Savanna Real Estate, which secured $264 million in construction financing earlier this year, the 400,000-square-foot structure will yield a mix of office and retail space on a trapezoidal plot bound by Willoughby Street to the south, Gold Street to the west, and Flatbush Avenue Extension to the east. Gilbane Building Company and Savcon are the general contractors for the project.

Rabsky Group Secures $450M in Construction Financing to Complete 625 Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn

Rabsky Group recently closed on $450 million in construction financing to complete 625 Fulton Street, a mixed-use high rise building in Downtown Brooklyn. Financing is provided by Madison Realty Capital and was negotiated by Galaxy Capital.

Permits Filed for 52-Story Skyscraper at 589 Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn

Permits have been filed for a 52-story mixed-use skyscraper at 589 Fulton Street in Brooklyn’s Downtown neighborhood. Bound by DeKalb Avenue to the north, Flatbush Avenue Extension diagonally to the east, Fulton Street to the south, and Bond Street to the west, the lot is steps from the DeKalb Avenue subway station, serviced by the B, Q, and R trains. Also within walking distance is the Nevins Street station, serviced by the 2, 3, 4, and 5 trains. RedSky Capital is reportedly the developer but Witkoff is listed as the owner behind the applications.
