217 Duffield Street in Downtown Brooklyn Gets Demolished for Park and Parking Garage

It’s been a few years since the city’s Economic Development Corporation announced plans to develop a 700-unit underground parking garage on Willoughby Street in Downtown Brooklyn and create a one-acre green space on top. Now, the park, Willoughby Square, is one step closer to reality, as the city prepares to demolish an office building at 217 Duffield Street, between Willoughby and Fulton streets. 86 Fleet Place

32-Story, 440-Unit Mixed-Use Tower Rises to 26th Floor at 86 Fleet Place, Downtown Brooklyn

Construction is now underway on the 26th floor of the planned 32-story, 440-unit mixed-use building under development at 86 Fleet Place, in Downtown Brooklyn. The progress can be seen thanks to photos posted to the YIMBY Forums by user nyc1. The latest building permits indicate the 351-foot-tall tower will eventually encompass 427,346 square feet. It will host 10,813 square feet of commercial-retail space on the ground floor, followed by residential units averaging 871 square feet apiece. Since a leasing office is included, at least a number of the units will be rental apartments. The residential amenities are listed in YIMBY’s previous March update, when the structure was a single story up. John Catsimatidis’s Red Apple Group is the developer and Goldstein, Hill & West Architects is behind the architecture. Completion is expected in 2017.

620 Fulton Street

12-Story, 179,000-Square-Foot Medical-Office Building Tops Out at 620 Fulton Street, Downtown Brooklyn

Construction has topped out on the 12-story, 178,958-square-foot medical facility-office building under development at 620 Fulton Street, in Downtown Brooklyn, as seen in photos posted to the YIMBY Forums by JC_Heights. The project is being built by the New York Hotel Trades & Hotel Association of New York City Employee Benefit Fund, which is an organization that provides medical and social services to hotel union workers. It will serve as their Brooklyn branch. Health care facilities, totaling 65,000 square feet, will be located on the ground through fifth floors, followed by 70,000 square feet of office space on the sixth through 11th floors. There will also be 20,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor and a restaurant. TriBeCa-based Francis Cauffman is behind the design. Façade installation has not yet begun, although completion is expected before 2017.
