Globiwest Hospitality has finally begun construction on its planned boutique hotel at Third Avenue and Sixth Street, where excavation kicked off last summer. The foundation and first floor were going in when YIMBY stopped by earlier this week.
While part of the Broadway Triangle is still tied up in a hotly contested debate over rezoning and racial politics, developers are quickly moving to build on the remaining lots in the former industrial ‘hood at Williamsburg’s southern edge, like 221 Middleton Street, where plans were just filed to construct a six-story apartment building.
YIMBY found this schematic on the fence at 44 Kent Street near the waterfront in Greenpoint, where construction recently began on a six-story building. It will rise 70 feet into the air on an empty, block-long lot on West Street between Kent and Greenpoint Avenue, a few hundred feet from the East River.
The Department of Buildings recently approved plans to transform a humble three-story brick storefront with apartments in Williamsburg into this metallic-looking six-story building. The century-old building at 555 Grand Street will expand from two apartments to 12, and gain 3,000 square feet of residential space for a new total of 8,668 square feet.
