520 Fifth Avenue’s Exterior Nears Completion in Midtown, Manhattan

The eighth-tallest building on our year-end construction countdown is 520 Fifth Avenue, a 1,002-foot mixed-use supertall skyscraper in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Rabina, the 88-story structure will span 415,000 square feet and yield 100 condominium units and 25 floors of boutique office space. The project will also include ground-floor retail and an extensive collection of amenities. The property is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and West 43rd Street, one block north of Bryant Park.

Affordable Housing Conversion Begins At 371 Seventh Avenue In Midtown, Manhattan

Slate Property Group and Breaking Ground have completed the acquisition of the Stewart Hotel at 371 Seventh Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan. The acquisition marks the start of a hotel-to-residential conversion project that will deliver 579 permanently affordable apartments. Slate will lead the development and construction of the project, which will be owned and operated by Breaking Ground upon completion. The initiative is aimed at serving low-income households and formerly homeless individuals. The property is located between West 29th and 30th Streets.

Excavation Underway for 844-Foot Skyscraper at 343 Madison Avenue in Midtown East, Manhattan

At number ten on our year-end construction countdown of the tallest projects in New York is 343 Madison Avenue, an 844-foot-tall commercial skyscraper in Midtown East, Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by BXP, the 49-story structure will yield 950,000 square feet of office space and a collection of tenant amenities. The property is located between East 44th and 45th Streets.

Casoni’s Exterior Continues to Progress at 989 Sixth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan

The 13th-tallest building on our annual construction countdown is Casoni, a 785-foot-tall residential skyscraper in the Garment District of Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by C3D Architecture and developed by Sioni Group in partnership with AB & Sons, the 70-story structure will span 384,118 square feet and yield 311 rental and condominium units with an average scope of 991 square feet. The building will also contain two cellar levels. The property is located at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and West 37th Street.

Foundations Underway for 717-Foot Skyscraper at 70 Hudson Yards in Hudson Yards, Manhattan

At number 17 on our year-end construction countdown is 70 Hudson Yards, a 717-foot-tall commercial skyscraper in Hudson Yards, Manhattan. Designed by Roger Ferris + Partners and Gensler and developed by Related Companies and Oxford Properties, the 47-story structure is planned to become New York’s first zero-carbon emission skyscraper and will yield 1.1 million square feet of office space. The property is bounded by West 36th to the north, West 35th Street to the south, and Hudson Boulevard East to the west.

Site Cleared for SOM-Designed Skyscraper at 12 West 57th Street in Midtown, Manhattan

At number 19 on our year-end countdown of the tallest projects underway in New York is 12 West 57th Street, a proposed 672-foot-tall residential skyscraper along Billionaires’ Row in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill and developed by Stefan Soloviev of Solow Building Co., the 52-story structure will take the place of multiple former low- and mid-rise buildings between Fifth and Sixth Avenues and rise from a through lot spanning West 56th and 57th Streets.

Hotel Meta Nears Completion at 450 Eleventh Avenue in Hudson Yards, Manhattan

The 20th-tallest building on our annual construction countdown is Hotel Meta, a 642-foot-tall hotel skyscraper nearing completion at 450 Eleventh Avenue in Hudson Yards, Manhattan. Designed by Moshe Tzur Architects and DSM Design Group and developed by Marx Development Group, the 51-story structure will yield an undisclosed number of hotel rooms and a collection of amenities, including a multi-level restaurant with a bar and outdoor terrace. The property is located at the corner of West 37th Street and Eleventh Avenue, directly across from the Jacob K. Javits Center.

RIU Hotel Skyscraper Begins Ascent At 1710 Broadway in Midtown, Manhattan

At number 21 on our year-end countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in New York is 1710 Broadway, a 633-foot-tall hotel skyscraper in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Moss Architects and developed by RIU Hotels and Resorts, the 54-story structure will yield 673 hotel rooms, as well as two 300-seat restaurants and a lounge bar. The 8,848-square-foot development site has 129 feet of frontage at the corner of Broadway and West 54th Street.

Vanderbilt University Proposes Upgrades to Historic Seminary Campus in Chelsea, Manhattan

Vanderbilt University has submitted a proposal to the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission for a series of improvements at 440 West 21st Street in Chelsea, Manhattan. Designed by Beyer Blinder Belle, the project seeks to make modifications to the General Theological Seminary campus, which Vanderbilt agreed to lease for $44 million in September. The site is bounded by West 20th and 21st Streets and Ninth and Tenth Avenues.

Excavation Continues for KPF-Designed Skyscraper at 570 Fifth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan

The 24th-tallest project on our year-end construction countdown is 570 Fifth Avenue, a 567-foot-tall commercial skyscraper set to rise on the eastern edge of the Diamond District in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Extell, the 32-story structure will yield nearly 1.1 million square feet, with the majority devoted to Class A office space. The project will also contain retail space on floors one and two, an 80,000-square-foot flagship store for IKEA on the first two cellar levels, as well as a gym, swimming pool, basketball court, and juice bar on the third and fourth below-grade stories. The property is located between West 46th and 47th Streets.
