Virgin Hotel Rises Above Planned Retail Podium At 1225 Broadway in NoMad

NoMad has been experiencing an incredible amount of construction over the last few years, especially for new hotels. Today, YIMBY has a look at 1225 Broadway, the future Virgin Hotel, which is being developed by the Lam Group. New images reveal that construction has now reached the tenth floor, surpassing the tower’s base, which will eventually create 100,000 square feet of retail space. The full footprint of the podium remains to be completed.

NoMad’s Skyline Lights Up With “Aurora” Atop 277 Fifth Avenue

For this year’s NYCxDesign, an annual celebration of art and design in all forms, developers Victor Group and Lendlease have commissioned renowned lighting designer Joel Fitzpatrick for a temporary installation at the pinnacle of 277 Fifth Avenue in NoMad. Designed by architect Rafael Viñoly, the 55-story residential tower, currently under construction, will temporarily illuminate the surrounding neighborhood in a gentle flurry of vibrant color.

YIMBY Visits 277 Fifth Avenue As Façade Nears Completion

Construction at 277 Fifth Avenue is moving along quickly, with just thirteen floors of façade installation remaining. Victor Group and Lendlease are developing the 55-story skyscraper in NoMad, on the corner of 30th Street. The tower, designed by Rafael Vinoly Architects, has a dark-indigo façade made of reinforced cast-concrete panels, fabricated in Finland. Multi-layered glazed curtain walls were designed for optimal thermal and acoustical performance, and there is also a cantilever over its southern neighbor.

Bjarke Ingels-Designed “29th & 5th” Revealed, HFZ Capital’s New NoMad Office Tower at 3 West 29th Street

When the old Bancroft Bank Building met the wrecking ball a few years ago, the site, at 3 West 29th Street, was tentatively planned to give rise to a residential tower designed by Moshe Safdie. In September of 2017, that changed, when HFZ Capital filed plans for a Bjarke Ingels-designed office skyscraper, as reported by YIMBY. Now, we have the exclusive reveal for the first renderings of the new building, which will apparently be even more prominent on the skyline than originally planned.
