Work Remains Stalled on KPF-Designed Skyscraper at 3 West 29th Street in NoMad, Manhattan

At number five on our Turkey Week rundown of stalled and on-hold projects is 3 West 29th Street, a planned 34-story skyscraper in NoMad. Originally designed by Bjarke Ingels Group and developed by HFZ Capital Group, the 551-foot-tall structure, dubbed “29th & 5th,” was expected to yield 600,000 square feet of office space, but work shut down after HFZ defaulted on the project. Vanbarton Group purchased the development in the ensuing foreclosure sale and retained Kohn Pedersen Fox to redesign the building, but progress has yet to materialize. The through-block property is located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues adjacent to Marble Collegiate Church, and extends north to West 30th Street.

262 Fifth Avenue Continues Rapid Ascent in NoMad, Manhattan

Construction is continuing to rise on 262 Fifth Avenue, a 56-story residential skyscraper in NoMad, Manhattan. Designed by Meganom with SLCE Architects as the executive architect and developed by Boris Kuzinez of Five Points Development under the Five Points 262 Project LLC, the 860-foot-tall structure will yield 26 condominium units averaging 3,200 square feet apiece with at least one becoming a quadruplex. GEA Consulting Engineers is the MEP engineer and CM & Associates Construction Management is the general contractor for the project, which located on a 5,000-square foot property on the southwest corner of Fifth Avenue and West 29th Street.

Exterior work continues on 1162 Broadway, a 13-story commercial building in the Madison Square North Historic District of NoMad. Designed by Morris Adjmi Architects and developed by 1162 Broadway LLC, the 185-foot-tall structure will yield Class A office space and 1,800 square feet for a restaurant on the ground floor and cellar level. On Star Management is the general contractor for the property, which is located between West 27th and 28th Streets.

Fifth Avenue Hotel Nears Completion at 1 West 28th Street in NoMad, Manhattan

Work is nearing completion on the Fifth Avenue Hotel at 1 West 28th Street in NoMad. Designed by Perkins EastmanPBDW Architects, and Martin Brudnizki Design Studio and developed by Flaneur Hospitality, the project consists of a new 24-story, 230-foot-tall tower and the restoration and hotel conversion of the adjacent five-story McKim, Mead & White-designed structure. CNY Group is the general contractor for the property, which is alternatively addressed as 250 Fifth Avenue and is located at the northwest corner of Fifth Avenue and West 28th Street.
