Partial Residential & Hotel Conversion For 22-Story Building At 660 Madison Avenue, Lenox Hill

The Safra family’s JSRE Acquisitions has filed applications to convert part of the 22-story, 475,000 square-foot mixed-use commercial building at 660 Madison Avenue, in Lenox Hill between East 60th and 61st Streets, into residential and hotel units. Beginning on the 10th floor, there will be 54 dwelling units added in total. The hotel portion will be located from floors 10 through 15, although it’s not specified how many of the 54 dwelling units will be part of the hotel. Regardless, the remaining units will be residential and will be located throughout floors 10 through 22. Roof terraces already exist on many of the floors and the top two floors will consists of duplex units.

Permits Filed: 1200 Broadway, Six-Story Hotel in Bed-Stuy

Hotels are cropping up all over Williamsburg and Bushwick, but over the weekend, we spotted plans for a six-story hotel in a rather unusual spot – on Broadway in Bed-Stuy, next to the border with Bushwick. The 65-foot-tall building would rise at 1200 Broadway, between Lafayette Avenue and Van Buren Street.

Ceremonial Groundbreaking For 13-Story, 350-Key Hotel At 284 East Oakdene Avenue, Teaneck, New Jersey

Over the summer, news broke of the planned 13-story, 350-key dual-brand hotel set to rise at 284 East Oakdene Avenue, in southern Teaneck, New Jersey, located immediately off exit 70 on the New Jersey Turnpike. According to Real Estate Weekly, Alfred Sanzari Enterprises recently held a ceremonial groundbreaking at the site, which is located adjacent to the Glenpointe commercial complex. The 147-foot-tall hotel will feature a Hampton Inn & Suites and Homewood Suites, both to be operated by Hilton. One hotel will be geared towards short-term guests while the other will accommodate extended-stay guests. A completion date has not been given, but excavation work is now imminent.

Permits Filed for Hotel at 142 33rd Street in Sunset Park

The industrial zone along the waterfront in Sunset Park is a remnant of when the area was filled with cold storage warehouses, major international shipping operations, and heavy industry that ranged from canneries to ammunition factories. The blocks between Third and Fourth Avenue, just east of the Gowanus Expressway, have always felt a little more transitional, because they mix low-slung warehouses with little prewar townhouses. But the neighborhood’s zoning prevents new residential construction, and all the new buildings that sprout here are budget hotels. One such hotel is in the works at 142 33rd Street, across the street from two more newly finished hotels.

Hotel developers are suddenly facing new hurdles to building in protected industrial zones, and they’re looking further afield for cheap sites – right next to the border with Long Island, in fact. YIMBY spotted building applications for two hotels at 1021 and 1025 Beach Street in Far Rockaway, Queens, near where the elevated A train tracks end.

Long Island City’s Aloft Hotel Tops Out at 27-45 Jackson Avenue

Over the past month, the 19-story Aloft Hotel at 27-45 Jackson Avenue reached its full height. The building was designed by Gene Kaufman, who is best known for designing budget hotels of the type that seen here. While most of them stand in Manhattan and easily get lost in the skyscraper thickets, the new tower in central Long Island City is now the tallest all-hotel building in Queens.

First Glimpse At 29-Story Dream Hotel Planned At 560 Seventh Avenue, Times Square

Earlier this year, YIMBY reported on applications for a 29-story commercial building at 560 Seventh Avenue, between West 40th and 41st Streets near Times Square, and over the summer, the developer finished assembling the air rights. The Real Deal has the first glimpse of the planned Dream Hotel, which will include 167 units, per the latest filings. Retail space will total 15,463 square feet in the 118,508 square-foot building. Stonehill & Taylor Architects is designing and UAP North America is crafting a metal screen attachment for part of the three-story podium. Soho Properties, MHP Real Estate Services, and Hampshire Hotels Group are developing, and completion is expected in early 2018.

Exterior Work Wraps Up on LIC Marriott and Residential Tower, At 29-07 Queens Plaza North

The LIC Marriott and Residential Tower at 29-07 Queens Plaza North is effectively complete on the exterior, and the last glass panes have now been installed on its eastern facing facade. At 31 stories tall, it is now among the five tallest topped-out buildings in central Long Island City.

First Look At Hotel-Condo Conversion Of 37-Story Sony Tower At 550 Madison Avenue, Midtown

Back in 2013, Chetrit Group acquired the 37-story, 855,000 square-foot office building at 550 Madison Avenue, between East 55th and 56th Streets in Midtown, for $1.1 billion. Now the developer has released a partial rendering and details of the planned conversion of the building known as Sony Tower and previously the AT&T Building, per Curbed. Floors 21 through 43 will be converted into 113 condominiums and the lower portion of the building will contain a 170-key hotel, featuring 60 suites and a slew of amenities. Robert A.M. Stern Architects is designing, and completion is expected in early 2018. The Philip Johnson-designed tower originally opened in 1984.

Construction Update: Partial Facade Reveal For Hotel at 40-47 22nd Street, Long Island City

40-47 22nd Street, a ten-story hotel in northern Long Island City, is nearing exterior completion. While the narrow, south elevation still awaits cladding, the green and black panels on the west façade are being revealed as protection film is peeled from the surface.
