Margaritaville Resort at 560 Seventh Avenue Reaches Top Floors in Times Square

The Margaritaville Resort at 560 Seventh Avenue in Times Square has climbed to the pinnacle. Work on the curtain wall has also moved along quickly and is nearing the upper floors of the reinforced concrete superstructure. Designed by Stonehill & Taylor Architects and developed by Sharif El-Gamal of Soho Properties along with MHP Real Estate Services, the nearly $300 million project will help fulfill the booming demand for hotel space as tourism to New York City and areas like Times Square continues to rise. The 29-story tower is located at the corner of Seventh avenue and West 40th Street and will contain 234 rooms.

Work Wrapping Up on Pestana Hotel at 338 West 39th Street in Midtown

YIMBY last did an article on 338 West 39th Street back in August 2015. Sam Chang, a well-known hotelier in New York City, purchased the 50-foot-wide site for $22,500,000, though permits list Brarone Management as the developer behind the address. Stephen B. Jacobs Group is the designer of the 25-story hotel part of Pestana Hotels, a Portugal-base company. The site is located in Midtown, Manhattan between Eight and Ninth Avenues near a number of other hotel chains that have popped up in the past several years.

Landmarks Preservation Commission Reviews Proposals for New Hotel at 16 East 16th Street in Union Square

New York City’s Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) will decide the fate of a new nine-story hotel to be constructed within the historic Margaret Louisa Home in Manhattan. The existing six-story structure at 16 East 16th Street was completed in 1891 and included 78 bedrooms, parlor and reception rooms, private dining areas, a public restaurant, and laundry facilities for over 100 women who lived in the building.

New York YIMBY’s 2020 Construction Report Shows 36,467 New Residential Unit Filings, A 7.1% Jump

YIMBY’s 2019 New Building Report, released this time last year, showed a major jump in applications from 2017 into 2018, with new residential units filed with the Department of Buildings rising from 20,393 to 34,039. YIMBY’s 2020 New Construction Report shows that citywide gains continued into 2019, with total units filed increasing to 36,467, a jump of 2,428 or 7.1%.
