Construction Crane Assembled for 262 Fifth Avenue Supertall in NoMad, Manhattan

Construction is ramping up on 262 Fifth Avenue, a 1,000-foot residential supertall in NoMad, where the tower crane has just completed assembly. Designed by Meganom with SLCE Architects as the executive architect and developed by Boris Kuzinez of Five Points Development under the Five Points 262 Project LLC, the 54-story skyscraper will yield 41 condominium units. WSP is the structural and M.E.P. engineer and CM & Associates Construction Management is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the southwest corner of Fifth Avenue and West 29th Street.

New Rendering Released for 350 Park Avenue Supertall in Midtown East, Manhattan

A new rendering has been released for 350 Park Avenue, a proposed 1,350-foot commercial supertall in Midtown East, Manhattan. Designed by Norman Foster of Foster + Partners and developed by Vornado Realty Trust and Rudin Management, the 51-story structure is planned to yield 1.7 million square feet of office space, of which the hedge fund Citadel LLC is slated to occupy roughly 54 percent. The project site is bound by East 52nd Street to the north, East 51st Street to the south, and Park Avenue to the east.

270 Park Avenue Soars Past First Setback in Midtown East, Manhattan

The tallest building on our year-end construction countdown is 270 Park Avenue, JPMorgan Chase‘s 1,388-foot supertall headquarters in Midtown East. Designed by Lord Norman Foster of Foster + Partners and developed by Tishman Speyer, the 70-story skyscraper will yield 2.5 million square feet of office space and accommodate 15,000 employees, and will become the tallest building in New York powered completely by hydroelectric energy. Adamsom Associates is the architect of record, Banker Steel provided the steelwork, NYC Constructors is the steel subcontractor, Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers (MRCE) designed the structural foundation elements, Severud Associates is the engineer of record, R&R Scaffolding Ltd. will provide the BMU, and AEOCOM Tishman is the general contractor for the property, which occupies a full city block bound by East 48th Street to the north, East 47th Street to the south, Park Avenue to the east, and Madison Avenue to the west.

Demolition Progresses for 1,200-Foot PENN15 at 15 Penn Plaza in Midtown, Manhattan

The second-tallest building on our year-end construction countdown is PENN 15, a 1,200-foot commercial supertall at 15 Penn Plaza in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Foster + Partners and developed by Vornado Realty Trust, the 56-story skyscraper will yield 2.7 million square feet of office space and stand as the centerpiece of the 7.4-million-square-foot Penn District master plan. Northstar Contracting Group is the demolition contractor for the property, which is located along Seventh Avenue between West 32nd and 33rd Streets.

Demolition Concludes for Extell’s Potential Supertall at 570 Fifth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan

At number three on our December countdown of the tallest buildings underway in New York is 570 Fifth Avenue, a potential 1,101-foot supertall in Midtown, Manhattan. Developed by Extell, the skyscraper could rise 78 stories and span 1.4 million square feet with hotel and condominium components. Alternately, the plot could give rise to an 860-foot-tall, 47-story office tower yielding more than 1.5 million square feet. ALBA Services is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the northwest corner of Fifth Avenue and West 46th Street.

1,100-Foot Supertall Awaits Construction at 41-47 West 57th Street in Midtown, Manhattan

The fourth-tallest building on our year-end countdown is 41-47 West 57th Street, a proposed 1,100-foot mixed-use supertall along Billionaires’ Row in Midtown. Designed by OMA and developed by Sedesco, the 63-story skyscraper will yield 119 condominium units spread across 237,000 square feet, a 158-room hotel spanning 205,100 square feet on floors two through 20, and a 10,212-square-foot restaurant. The tower is set to rise from an interior plot between Fifth and Sixth Avenues with frontage along both West 57th and West 58th Streets.

Excavation Underway for Supertall Hotel and Observation Tower at 740 Eighth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan

Leading off the top five in our year-end countdown of the tallest construction projects underway in New York is 740 Eighth Avenue, a planned 1,067-foot hotel and observation tower in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by ODA with SLCE Architects as the architect of record and developed by Extell, the 52-story supertall will span 776,000 square feet with 825 hotel rooms on the lower half and a public observatory with a drop ride attraction on the upper levels. The project will also feature retail space, two upper restaurant floors, and a pool deck. Lendlease is the general contractor, WSP is the structural engineer, and Ancora Engineering is handling the excavation and foundations for the property, which is located between West 45th and 46th Streets on the border of Times Square and Hell’s Kitchen.

Brooklyn Tower’s Façade Continues to Wrap Up at 9 DeKalb Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn

At number six on our December countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in New York is The Brooklyn Tower, a 1,066-foot residential supertall at 9 DeKalb Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn. Designed by SHoP Architects and developed by JDS Development, the 93-story skyscraper stands as the tallest building in the outer boroughs that will yield 150 condominium units, 280 market-rate rentals, 120 affordable rentals, and a 100,000-square-foot retail podium incorporated into the renovated landmark Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn. Douglas Elliman Development Marketing Group is the exclusive marketing, sales, and leasing agent for the residential component, which includes 150 units for purchase and 120 affordable rental units. Gachot Studios is the residential interior designer, Krista Ninivaggi of Woods Bagot is the amenity designer, and HMWhite is the landscape designer for the property, which is bound by Flatbush Avenue Extension to the northeast, Fleet Street to the northwest, DeKalb Avenue to the south, and the adjoining Dime Savings Bank to the west.

The Spiral is Close to Wrapping Up Construction at 66 Hudson Boulevard in Hudson Yards, Manhattan

The eighth-tallest building on our year-end countdown is The Spiral, a 1,041-foot commercial supertall at 66 Hudson Boulevard in Hudson Yards. Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group and developed by Tishman Speyer, the 66-story skyscraper will yield 2.85 million square feet of office space. Turner Construction Company is the general contractor, Banker Steel provided the steel work, and Permasteelisa is the façade contractor for the nearly $3.7 billion project, which spans a full block between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues and West 34th and 35th Streets.

Foundations Underway for KPF’s 520 Fifth Avenue Supertall in Midtown, Manhattan

The ninth-tallest building on our December countdown is 520 Fifth Avenue, a 1,002-foot-tall mixed-use supertall in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox and developed by Rabina, which took over from Ceruzzi Properties and SMI USA in 2019, the 88-story structure will span 507,608 square feet and yield 100 residential units, commercial space, and four cellar levels. WSP is the structural engineer, DeSimone Consulting Engineers is the facade consultant, and Suffolk Construction is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the northwest corner of Fifth Avenue and West 43rd Street.
