65 Private Drive’s Façade Nears Completion at Calyer Place in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Curtain wall installation is nearing completion on 65 Private Drive, a 40-story residential building and the tallest component of the four-tower Calyer Place master plan from Cooper Robertson & Partners in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Designed by SLCE Architects and developed by M&H Realty, the 439-foot-tall structure will yield 500 rental units. The property is located at the intersection of West and Oak Streets along the East River.

32 West 48th Street’s Foundations Take Shape in Midtown, Manhattan

Foundation work is progressing at 32 West 48th Street, the site of a 31-story hotel tower in Midtown, Manhattan’s Diamond District. Designed by SLCE Architects and developed by Extell, the 456-foot-tall structure will span 213,158 square feet with 534 hotel rooms. AECOM Tishman is the general contractor for the project, which is located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, directly south of Rockefeller Center.

Excavation Underway for Supertall Hotel and Observation Tower at 740 Eighth Avenue in Midtown, Manhattan 

Leading off the top five in our year-end countdown of the tallest construction projects underway in New York is 740 Eighth Avenue, a planned 1,067-foot hotel and observation tower in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by ODA with SLCE Architects as the architect of record and developed by Extell, the 52-story supertall will span 776,000 square feet with 825 hotel rooms on the lower half and a public observatory with a drop ride attraction on the upper levels. The project will also feature retail space, two upper restaurant floors, and a pool deck. Lendlease is the general contractor, WSP is the structural engineer, and Ancora Engineering is handling the excavation and foundations for the property, which is located between West 45th and 46th Streets on the border of Times Square and Hell’s Kitchen.

At number eight on on our year-end countdown of the tallest buildings underway in New York is 262 Fifth Avenue, a 1,000-foot-tall residential supertall in NoMad, Manhattan. Designed by Meganom with SLCE Architects as the executive architect and developed by Boris Kuzinez of Five Points Development under the Five Points 262 Project LLC, the 54-story skyscraper will yield 41 condominium units and 11,000 square feet of retail space on the first two floors. WSP is the structural and M.E.P. engineer and CM & Associates Construction Management is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the southwest corner of Fifth Avenue and West 29th Street.

Number 16 on YIMBY’s countdown of the tallest projects underway in New York is 98 DeKalb Avenue, a 49-story residential skyscraper in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Designed by SLCE Architects and developed by Rockrose Development, the 610-foot-tall tower will yield 418,092 square feet with 609 residential units and 3,775 square feet of commercial space. PAL Environmental Services is the general contractor for the project, which is alternatively addressed as 180 Ashland Place and is located at the corner of DeKalb Avenue and Ashland Place.
