In October of 2015, the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ) approved a multi-billion-dollar redevelopment plan to build a new Port Authority Bus Terminal, located on the site of the existing one between West 40th and 42nd streets along Eighth Avenue. Peter Poon Architects have designed nearly two dozen hotels across the city, and now another one of their glassy structures is coming to the area near Penn Station. Mayflower Business Group has filed new building applications for a 24-story hotel at 319 West 35th Street, between Eighth and Ninth avenues.
A seven-story hotel on West 42nd Street between 10th and 11th avenues may bite the dust for a 39-story apartment building. The latest West Side megatower is planned for 507 West 42nd Street, a couple blocks north of the Lincoln Tunnel approach.
Northern Hell’s Kitchen is getting a movie theater. Now that exterior construction has been completed on the 32-story, 709-unit mixed-use building, dubbed VIA 57 WEST, at 625 West 57th Street in Hell’s Kitchen, work is underway to lease the building’s apartments and fill its 45,000 square feet of retail space. One of those commercial tenants now includes Landmarks Theatres, which will operate an eight-screen movie theater within the base of the building.
