Just after 9pm on Thursday evening, an explosion occurred at a power plant in Astoria resulting in a glowing blue sky, which some have now dubbed the Astoria Borealis. According to NYPD, the flash of blue light was a result of an apparent transformer explosion at a Con Edison substation facility.
Designed by Studio Gang, the stunning glass facade at 40 Tenth Avenue is now complete. Described as a “solar carve,” the 12-story office building features a chiseled, gem-like curtain wall that was engineered to eliminate shadows.
Permits have been filed for two four-story residential buildings on adjacent lots at 1451-1453 Sutter Avenue, in East New York, Brooklyn. The development sites are located between Grant Avenue and Eldert Lane. Nearby transit options include the A train at Grant Avenue, and the A and C trains at Euclid Avenue. 1451-1453 Sutter Avenue, LLC is listed as the owner on the filings.
Located to the south of the New York Stock Exchange on a narrow rectangular strip of land along Broad Street, the Financial District’s first residential supertall will soon rise at 45 Broad Street. The tower will eventually soar 1,115 feet above the crowded streets of Lower Manhattan, and should make a very dramatic impact on the skyline in the coming years. Clad with bronze-colored aluminum panels and an intricate mix of sleek vertical and curved lines, it is the 5th-tallest skyscraper currently under construction in New York City. Construction for the Hilton Grand Vacation Hotel at 12 East 48th Street is making substantial headway, as the facade and window systems begin to take shape. The 31-story hotel is being designed by Handel Architects and will eventually contain 161 rooms, an outdoor terrace, and ground floor retail.
