Collegiate School’s New 10-Story Building Tops Off at Riverside Center

The Collegiate School sold off its buildings on West 78th Street to its landmarked neighbor, the West End Collegiate Church, and now the new campus for the tony, all-boys educational institution is rising at 301 Freedom Place in the Riverside Center development. Prolific photographer Tectonic brings us the latest from the site between West 61st and West 62nd Streets, a block inland from the West Side Highway and the Hudson River.

The Orthodox Jewish community on the border between Bed-Stuy and Williamsburg has learned to make the best of the area’s industrial zoning. Last week, South Williamsburg-based developer Joseph Brunner filed plans for an eight-story commercial and community facility building at 347 Flushing Avenue, just west of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and the Navy Yard.

In June 2015, then-Brooklyn Bridge Park President Regina Myer revealed renderings for the last two residential towers set to rise in the park, on Pier 6. Now, ODA Architecture, which is designing them, has filed plans for the pair of developments at 15 and 50 Bridge Park Drive.

New construction has slowed down in eastern Bedford-Stuyvesant this year, but a few ambitious developers are heading out to less-established parts of the neighborhood despite uncertainty over the future of the 421-a tax break. Three townhouses are set to replace a large, aging wood-frame structure at 282-284 Patchen Avenue, between Bainbridge and Chauncey streets.
